Q: Mavericks and MacMini - after sleep mode windows resized and glued to left upper corner

Hi!

I have MacMini and HDMI monitor. When I go to bed, I use sleep mode and off monitor using power button (I don't like standby light). When I woke up, I press on my touchpad to wake up my MacMini, after that I stand up and turning on monitor. All works fine, until I installed Mavericks. Now, after turning on, all windows changed size to very small and glued to left upper corner. I can't resize or move window. Only shutdown app can help. But, I can't shutdown Finder, I need reboot MacMini. It's very annoying.

As I understand, this problem appear, when I wake up MacMini before turning monitor on. When I turned on monitor and after that woke up MacMini, windows don't change his sizes.

What can I do to solve this problem?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), OS X Mavericks

I am not sure what can be done software wise. But I too don't like that stand-by light on the monitor. What I have done was to put a piece of electrical tape over the light. Perhaps you can do the same.

Wow, that light blinks while in stand-by? I'll be ripping that thing apart to unplug the LED. lol

I did go through the owners manual hoping to find the ability to disable that light. I've dealt with some monitors at work where you can disable the status LED. However, I couldn't find that in your owners manual. But that still doesn't mean that it's not there. Just check the menu for the monitor.

Ok, back to the original problem. I too am having issues with windows being resized and stuck in the upper left corner when waking my Mini. I have a Mid 2011 Mini using HDMI to connect to an Asus VS247 display. Since it's happening on multiple monitors this looks to be a bug!

Any workarounds here, short of never letter the display go to sleep?

    Thank you,

    Tom

This issue is driving me insane. I lock my computer a couple of times a day as I go to meeting and what not. Everytime either Outlook or VMWare or Chrome will be screwed up when I awake it from sleep. I have to kill the app and start it back up again or I can't get it out of its weird "docked" mode. Basically the application window will be nearly off the screen. I can move it on the screen but the caption will be off screen still and I will not be able to size the window at all. It really messes VMWare's mind up when this happens.

I wanted Mavericks as it was supposed to fix multiple monitor issues but it has made it worse. Very sorry I upgraded. I hope they fix it in the next bug patch. I just cuss at the stupid thing when I wake it.

MacBook Pro 16g of memory with external 24" monitor via HDMI -> DVI connector. Laptop is primary monitor on the left, external monitor is on the right. Mavericks is in the doghouse just below both of them.

I have a 2012 Mac Mini that had the same sleep/wake issues described by others in this post. I have been using the HDMI output of the Mac Mini to connect to HDMI input on my BenQ GW2750 monitor. You would think there is just no logic in using the Apple provided HDMI to DVI adaptor when both devices are capabile of HDMI but having tried every other tip to resolve this sleep issue if figured I would try this too. My issue had only started occurring since mavricks upgrade.

I have had two full days running with no issues coming out of sleep mode when previously every time sleep mode happened would equal needing to reboot. I am using the HDMI to DVI adaptor apple provided with the mini when it was new to my monitors DVI input and Mac Mini exits sleep mode with no issue!! Perhaps a future update will resolve issue and I will return to HDMI to HDMI but just thrilled to have my mac working again.

This solution worked for me too.  I had weeks of problems with the HDMI-HDMI cable, replacing it with HDMI-DVI works perfectly for three days now.

My setup is 1 cinema display (via Thuderbolt/MiniDisplay port) and 1 LG display with HDMI/DVI/VGA.

LG on HDMI & Cinema:  After power save mode my system beachballs and can take several minutes to show a login prompt.  During powersave mode, the LG monitor does not switch to standby.  Windows sometimes are arranged and shrunk to the top left corner of the LG monitor after unlock.

Cinema alone:  works normally.  Instant login prompt.  Windows are in previous positions after unlock.

I moved from HDMI-HDMI connection to mini display port - VGA (monitor not having DVI).

This seems to have been a successful workround.

My monitor also not having DVI port, only two HDMI and VGA. I'm haven't HDMI-to-VGA connector to check this method.
