The zdnet artilce should have started, "An unnamed Apple spokesman", since it does not even give reference to a Apple Support Article or Press Release.

Then there is the incomplete list of Apple Security Updates at the end of the article. I think I have more listed in my notes than that. The second item down updates all the way back to 10.6.8. The latest item in the list was released Oct 3rd, and the article was released on Oct 23rd. Apple does not release general or security updates every week like other platforms do.

Thanx, I feel a little better about staying in Mountain Lion... I guess it's pretty obvious I am not in the IT profession, LOL... and don't always know how to parse information.

I have to say I'm not impressed with the new iTunes.  The change to iTunes 11 was an adjustment. I don't really like some of the features and it's not really that user friendly. It took me awhile to figure out to create a playlist and add songs to it. But I eventually figured it out. My main complaint now is the upgrade to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2. I can't access my purchased music, movies, or tv shows in the cloud on my Macbook Pro since this upgrade. Hopefully Apple creates a fix soon. It's rather annoying not being able to access things you've paid for.

That's not at all right, search the iTunes & Mavericks forums for similar sounding issues (error messages or dialogs can help narrow it down).

This mammoth thread is not the place to get help for this issue, otherwise raise a support request via iTunes (somewhere inside the store account IIRC).

I have already posted in the iTunes store section about this particular issue. Seems others are having it as well from the replies I've gotten. I wasn't trying to get help for the issue here, was just stating what I thought about the new iTunes. Thanks for the suggestion about the support request. I'll try that as well and see if it works.

How does one bring up the right sidebar?

I'd like to find out as well.   It's supposed to be in the "View" menu, I see "Show Sidebar" but no "Right Sidebar".   Would love to learn about this.

Turn off the left side bar, then go to Music > Playlists > {A regular playlist) > Add To...

It is bad. Slow in synchronising, cannot seem to sync photos properly and then crashes because it will not sync. The crashing is a daily affair. What sort of a crappy offering is this?

Wow.    Ok, I get it, this enables you to cherry pick from your iTunes library, adding to and arranging a playlist, but only works when the Sidebar is OFF.

This is supposed to be intuitive ?      It's far more convoluted than letting us open a second window with a simple double click.

    Indeed.

I had to go looking for it because the first thing I did with iTunes 11 was to change all the settings to make it behave as much like 10 as possible.

There seems to be at least 2 systems in place here…

    1. The method mentioned by turingtest2, clicking that 'Add To' button in the top right of the UI, which shifts the entire UI & lets you add to the current playlist by browsing files on the left area.

    2. Drag a file without the sidebar active (it seems to work in most views) the right part of the screen slides in with a full list of playlists & folders to drop files into.

Mode 1: 'Right sidebar mode' doesn't show up if you select a playlist folder or smart playlist or any tracks within those containers?

Also it doesn't appear if you are viewing Songs or Albums or anything that isn't a playlist?

So my tracks already need to be in a 'normal' playlist so I can add it to a playlist via this method?

How is this any better than the 'right click > Add to Playlist' context menu? Wrong sidebar mode seems more appropriate.

Mode 2: Is more usable & makes sence that it doesn't show up when the sidebar is active, since the playlists are already visible, but usually scrolled offscreen, it's nice that the smart playlists are filtered out, condensing the length of the list.

I create and update playlists frequently which has been more tedious with the omission of multiple windows in iTunes 11. I still use the left sidebar most of the time for any other random tasks, but when managing playlists I use the right sidebar which provides a pinned playlist with a sort function, and I can easily search my library and drag the music to the right maintaining better control of the playlist content than dragging it to a simple playlist icon on the left sidebar. It would be great if one could use both sidebars at the same time and utilize smart playlists. Nevertheless, this feature works for my needs and I submitted my feedback to Apple

I realize that I should not have used the word "intuitive" and iTunes 11 in one sentence. I only recall one other user in this thread who posted that he liked iTunes 11 ( and changed it a short time later).

You've hit the nail on the head there Timbuktu.

Apple has always been about being Intuitive, but no more.

After installing iTunes11 when it first launched, and immediately hating it, I used advice in the early part of this thread to UPgrade to 10.7.

I stuck with that until the iOS7 release, and then decided to give in, as iTunes11 was needed for iOS7.

I like Mavericks, and i like iOS7 (i don't think cartoonish is fair. a design agency would be using terms like 'fresh' 'crisp' 'cool' 'different' etc).

but neither is worth the monster that is iTunes11.

    How I wish I'd stayed with 10.7.

Apple was quick to listen to users of iWork. This article talks about how Apple has been adding old features back into the new iWork for iMac:

I feel like they've never listened when it comes to iTunes.

Please continue to post feedback about what you feel is missing in iTunes 11:
