Hillorc, you're partially awesome.    Your calender trick made my iphone play its first music in weeks.... well played for 5 minutes.   Then stopped.   then repeated your trick and is works again for a few minutes.   At least it proves it is a software issue.   So tired of posts about toothbrushing the connector.   I wonder if Apple will fix this in an iOS update with tomorrow's Launch event.

A coin will also do the same thing. But, turn the phone off and back on and the sound will be gone again. So, I'm sorry, it's not a permanent fix.

i just updated ios 7.0.3, reboot my phone. and there's still no sound. it still on dock mode. so does this mean we have to wait until ios 8 for this problem to recover?

I just found out today that my phone DID have a problem with the dock connector that was  hardware. So  y'all  might want to have your phones cheched.

I had this problem with my iPhone 4 an hour ago and tried virtually every solution suggested here to no effect.

The Calendar trick, plugging in headphones, turning the mute slider on and off a hundred times, turning off apps, or even deleting apps - none of that worked for me.

I read elsewhere that the problem could have been caused by a buildup of lint and detritus in the dock (causing the phone to think that it was docked when it wasn't), so I got a safety pin, bent it, and used it to carefully scrape out the lint from the docking area - and yes, there was quite a bit of gunk in there.

Ninety seconds later my volume slider was back and working again. Go figure.

My 4s used to have the exact same problem, no sound , no volume bar and so on like everybody says in this thread.

I had tried everything mentioned by our friends here but no luck.

First I thought it was from some physical problem. Brushing the dock with alcohol only helped a short while then it returned to no sound again.

BUT I FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION!!

    Here are my steps:

    - I had several backups prior to 7.0.3 update releasing. At that time when I made backup of 7.0 and 7.0.1 I remember there was no such sound problems at all. So I decided to rollback(restore) to one of my previous backups.

    - I did not wipe any data before restoring. Just plug it to my PC and press restore via Itunes an choose the last known good backup.

Now my 4s is completely back to normal for 3 days so far.

Please try and let me know.

How did you downgrade the update back to 7.0? I realized that my problem with the sound also started after 7.02/7.03. Its driving me nuts!

I did not downgrade it. I just restored to the data state as of 7.0 but after restoring the os is still 7.0.3 and it is working fine. The thing is that do you have any good backups

Ok now I got your point. The problem is that I do not have any backup (woops). But strangely my sound does work noe, after connecting the ipad to my pc/itunes. I dont know how long it will last but I hope that apple will come with a real solution.

After hours of searching found a thread, using either white vinegar or alcohol with an old toothbrush clean the power connector at the bottom of the ipad, let it dry off, wait a few seconds and it should hopefully work. Worked for me and I was very sceptical to try at first.

Just start an app that use Airplay to reset the dock issue eg amazon instant video...
