Q: Wifi disconnects after sleep and takes long time to reconnect with Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks whenever my MacBook Air goes to sleep (if I leave it idle) the wifi disconnects and it can take up to a minute to reconnect when it wakes.

Basically what happens is, as soon as it wakes I have no internet connection, the WiFi indicator is pulsing, meaning it is searching for networks, but it takes ages to find any, then after some time, usually between 30 secs and a minute all the networks in my building pop up and it instantly at that point reconnects to my WiFi network.

It is incredibly frustrating I was so used to the Mac being an instant on tool, now it takes longer to get on the internet than booting up my windows PC.

Any ideas what might have caused this?

Verry annyoing issue, takes really long to connect. Rebooting the system is probably faster.

I'm using a Macbook Air 2013 model. This seemed to be an issue after the release of the macbooks earlier this year, which was fixed by a software update.

I am running into the same issue. Brand new Macbook Air with Mavericks. The only way I can get connected back to my access point after sleeping is disabling wifi and re-enabling it.

Same problem with a 3 months-old MacBook Air. Not only WiFi is slow but also Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter kills the connection after sleep or idle...

Same problem with 2013 MBA. Didn't have this problem even once with Mountain Lion. I'm toggling wifi off and on as a workaround but it's incredibly frustrating.

Wow, at first I thought it was just me

This is def. a problem since/with mavericks, I can't pinpoint when/where it will happen, cause it won't happen all the time, in about 50% of waking up the wifi will take ages to find networks and connect to mine, in the other 50% it will connect instantly - just like with Mountain Lion.

I really hope we won't have to wait for 10.9.1

This in NOT a solution but... if I rapidly turn off and on the WiFi, I reach the wireless in few seconds. So, what's the matter?

I'm almost certain it's a driver issue. More specifically, it has something to do with "re-establishing connection timer" when resuming from sleep. Yesterday I was going through system logs and there was one error message related to something like this. I googled it and only came up with some post by some OS X 10.9 beta tester/developer who called this message "system log spam". I also have a feeling that this bug might be somehow related to the TB-network-thingy that Maverics enabled..

I'm fairly certain it's a power management issue, Apple were raving about how much longer battery life is under Mavericks.  I assume that the OS is telling the wireless adaptor to go into some kind of deeper low-power state than in Mountain Lion, and it has trouble recovering from this state - it's almost like it's performing a cold-start everytime.

Also suffering from this issue. Turning the wifi off and on a few times does the trick usually, but it's definitely annoying to open my Macbook and not immedietely begin browsing the internet.

To describe the problem more specifically, it does not seem to occur if my MBA has been asleep for hours. Like, when I come home from work and open the lid, it connects to my network immediately. However, if I then sometime later close the lid and open it 10 min later, the problem occurs with 100% certainty.
