Q: External Hard Drive randomly become unwritable?

Hard Drive: Lacie Rugged 1.5 TB hard drive.

Formatted : MacOS Extended (Journaled)

853 GB used, 647 GB Free

Randomly this occurs:  I will try to copy something to the Lacie and it gives me any error saying it can not write to the disk... I eject the Lacie and then unplug the USB cord, wait a few seconds, plug cord back in and the Lacie appears back on the desktop... try writing the file to the disk again and it works... 10 minutes or 2 hours later(randomness) and I am having to do this all over again...

Anyone know how to fix this?  It just gets annoying to have to go through these steps again and again...

Thanks for your help,

Brent

Are you using the additional "power ony" USB cable? These drives aren't going to do very well with a single 500 mA feed. Either add the second cable (mine came with one), or switch to Firewire (Firewire, even 400, will be much faster than USB anyway!)
