Recently my computer froze in Safari.  I could move the mouse arrow, but that was it.  I hit the power button, which I dread, and rebooted the computer.

It brought me back to Safari, with the 4 tabs I had open.  They were all news item tabs.  It froze again, I abused the power button and turned it off.  This time, it would not reboot.  I was low on power so I was not worried, and charged it.  So far, after charging it to 4 to 5 green lights, it still won't boot.  I hear the chime, I see the grey screen with the spinning wheel, but after a min or so the screen goes black.

I did try to reboot in safe mode twice and this failed.  It appeared to be working, and the loading bar got to about 35/40%, but to no luck, the screen went black again.

For what it's worth, my DVD drive has not worked since 1 year after I bought it.  I do not want to have to buy a new computer.  I am fully backed up on an external hard drive and want it back.

Mavericks has been installed for over a week and I have had no issues.

My specs are 3.06 GHz 7400 RPM Hard Drive.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to make a genuis appoitnment.
