Sep 12, 2013 9:40 AM in response to yproulxby rccharles,Do you have the model number of the switch? Link?
Did you power the switch down? Perhaps routing tables got messed up.
Is the switch working? Does someother computer work with the switch?

Sep 13, 2013 5:22 AM in response to rccharlesby yproulx,The switch is a NetGear GS-116, 16 port Gigabit switch. I have powered it down several times with no result. It is working normally with all other computers: 3 iMacs (2011, OS 10.7.5), 2 PC print servers. When I connect the G5'S directly to the router, they connect to the network. I've had them connected (and working) to this switch for well over 3 years. One morning I come in and both G5's will not connect. I've tried powering down the switch, router and DSL modem several times with no result.

Sep 13, 2013 8:54 AM in response to yproulxby rccharles,I suspect the switch over the G5's. Two g5's shouldn't fail at the same time and be working connected directly to your router. The specs for the reliablity of the switch look good to me.
Try asking netgear crowd.
Perhaps...
-- let the switch off overnight.
-- done the obvious: swithed ports. switched cabels
-- see if you can configure g5's for 10meg ethernet.
-- does it work with only g5's attached to switch?
-- try someother switch / hub. borrow a friends.

Oct 30, 2013 5:51 AM in response to BDAquaby yproulx,As it turns out, the switch was deffective and replaced under lifetime warranty by Netgear.
I just reinstalled the new switch and everything is back to normal. The switch was connecting at 100 Mbit/s and the G5's seemed to be "locked" at 1 Gbit/s therefore refusing to connect at the lower speed. Thanks for your help.
