I upgraded iPhoto.  Now when I try to open the application, I get a message "the photo libray needs to be updated..."  The spinning circle appears for a while, indicating 'work going on.'  Then the application shuts down.

I download photos to iPhoto and I can view photos in Aperture.

Try running the iPhoto Library Upgrader (version 1.1).

Make sure you are using iPhoto Upgrader version 1.1 iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1

If so, go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1, then follow the steps. After the process finishes try launching iPhoto again.

    Try the following:

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

Do the same but this time select Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Where was this incompatible folder located? That's the first time I've hear of that.   Can you view those photos with Preview.  Take them out of the Trash bin and try with Preview.
