One more question.

Oct 30, 2013 3:19 AM in response to xboxtremeby Jan Renell,For WD owners affected, I would suggest posting here as well:
community.wd.com/t5/External-Drives-for-Mac/All-data-gone-on-My-Book-Studio-II/t d-p/602387
and creating a support case here: westerndigital.secure.force.com
The thread above is monitored by WD people, and although they don't seem to be responding in the forum, they might PM you for more information.
Just like many have stated here, the following is of interest:
- Make and model of affected drives
- RAID mode
- Interface used (USB, FireWire 800, Thunderbolt, adapters...)
- What OS you went from before to updating to Mavericks
- The precense and version of WD RAID Manager (I found mine in Library/Application Support/WesternDigital/WDDriveManager/WD RAID Manager)
- How it happened (was it the first time drive was connected after upgrading or later - anything unusual before that?)
- Drive's format (HFS+ or whatever)
Also, I'd sure be nice if some Mac news outlet would pick this up, to prevent this from happening to more people. I've dropped emails here and there, to no avail.

Oct 30, 2013 4:27 AM in response to Bruce in Indyby Mario Cuccodoro,Sorry but LaCie it is not a "producer" of HDs, it just assemble HDs produced by the main producer, WD, Seagate, Hitachi, etc.......
Mybe the problematic LaCie HDs are WD disks.

Oct 30, 2013 5:06 AM in response to xboxtremeby jullej,After upgrading my 2009 mbp 13" from Snow Leopard to Maverics my Lacie Quadra Max was not recognized at all over firewire 800, it does not even show up in disk utility. It's the 2TB version of Quadra, running in raid 1 mode, with two 1T Seagate Barracudas.
No data harmed, I'm able to access the disk with another mac running Snow Leopard & firewire 400.
thanks

Oct 30, 2013 7:05 AM in response to xboxtremeby wnboydbrown,So has anyone had any success with retrieving data or do we either have to wait on a fix and/or make an attempt to recover through a professional data recovery service?

You should consider using disk warrior to get your files back, ...however after corruption the metadata is likely destroyed from all reported indications

Oct 30, 2013 7:48 AM in response to PlotinusVeritasby mdi,Seagate acquired a controlling share of LaCie stocks in august 2012. ...But, of course, every single owner of any LaCie product maybe or not affected by this issue bought said product this year, right?

Oct 30, 2013 7:57 AM in response to mdiby PlotinusVeritas,The great mystery here are some are reporting data corruption on USB externals with NO RAID, and no HD control software,....which has no logical chain of causation unless these reports are invalid or incomplete
I've tested a pile of SATA bridges and HD without failure that are not running raid or software and all are 3 days out and fine
Until now 95% of data corruption has been:
Any RAID array
Essentially all WD MyBook with WD control software
And any raid arrays using said software
Lacie raid arrays both with and without 3rd party software
....and a minor no sleep issue on most all FireWire and thunderbolt drives.

Oct 30, 2013 12:36 PM in response to xboxtremeby mkl.dkm,Oct 23, 2013 9:52 PMWhen I installed OS X 10.9 over 10.8.5 the software was making problems (already several times mention in other discussion)
The installing was not possible because the computer after installing and login restart himself after 30 seconds.
I returned to my backup OS X 10.8.5 and now I see the Promise Pegasus R4 (raid5 thunderbolt connected) is renamed to MyBook and all data is lost or not possible to see.
The problem have happening by "WD Drive manager" running for my 2 x WD Studio edition 2 (4TB) and 2x WD Thunderbolt Duo (4TB)
If I run disk utility the disk is mention there is NO data or folders, in finder this disk is empty?
Now the Pegasus R4 is for recovery in a professional lab and all data going to be 100% recovered in RAW format. Price 390USD
I contacted Promise for the R4 and there response is great, possible the going to recover my disk on remote access.

Oct 30, 2013 1:00 PM in response to PlotinusVeritasby LarryBy,Just wanted to add, I'm using a WD MyBook RAID and NOT using the WD software and have no problems with OS X 10.9. After reading most of the posts in this forum, I beleive the problem is related to the WD software in combination with Mavericks.

Oct 30, 2013 1:14 PM in response to LarryByby AntonFagerberg,No it is NOT the case! I have two WD MyBook disks in a raid 0 created with Apples disk utility and I have the same problem. No WD software installed what so ever. Never had.

Oct 30, 2013 1:15 PM in response to xboxtremeby AKabas,I removed WD folders from Library/Application Support and all files with WD in their names from System/Library/Extensions. Finally the WD Drive Manager does not show up in the menu when I connect the formatted MyBook Studio Ed II 6TB.
BTW my Time Machine is on a 2TB single hard disk WD My Book drive and it's working fine under Mavericks with and without the WD software. Somebody in the WD forum said that his WD RED disk has not been affected but his WD GREEN disk on the same dock has been formatted to "MyBook". I wonder if this could be a Red/Green problem as well as a RAID problem.
