Hi all,

Think i've found a bug and was hoping someone could confirm i'm not the only one with it.

Open Mail

Create New Message

Open "Address" from the toolbar

Try and select and drag contact(s) into either the "to", "cc", or "Bcc" fields

This doesn't work for me, so i can't send to multiple people.

I have to go in the "+" at the end of the "to" field to add them individually.

Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren, Although they won't drag and drop, just select the names in address book and click on To or cc and they will appear in the fields above the message. It's just as quick.

i do not understand, how can i have 30 group folders with 20 names in each and individually select names be as fast as dragging groups into the bcc. about to stop using mail and going on line to a secondary company. this is unacceptable, please tell me this is a bug or im just stupid.

I believe you just have to type the group name!

40 groupos all different names that answer is not going to work. i have fought the messages that mail is not meant for businesses, now mavorick has proved that

It does not work, right after a group name is typed and return is hit, the to or cc field is just cleared. It used to work in ML.

This does not seem to work for smart groups at all.  I can type the name of a group in the To field of email, but smart groups do not seem to work.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong?  The fact that drag and drop doesn't work is a real bummer.  I thought this was supposed to be intuitive.

    Very frustrating!

I'm not following, I select a few people in the address book, then click the to text field in the email I am trying to send?  It isn't working for me.

This would have to be a fix in a future update. In Lion I selected four groups, double clicked one of them and all went into the selected sending field, whether it be To, cc, or bcc.

There was no need to change the function of the address book so it is a curious thing to behold. This method in awkward and ineffective when you have to type the group name to hide the names. Even the preferences ask if you wish the names to be hidden - even typing in several group names is difficult.

    Apple, please correct this oversight.

I can get groups into the email field by typing the group name, but I cannot get individual names at all.  They won't go into the email field by clicking on them or by trying to drag them.  It does not work for me to select a name in address book and then click on TO or CC.

The only way I can get individual names from address book to email is to first click on the + sign at the end of the TO field, then click on the name in address book, then click a second time on the actual address that opens with the first click..  It is very cumbersome....3 steps to get an address into an email is not going to work for me!

I found this thread (and several others) through the same frustration of not being able to add exisiting Group Names simply by typing the name into the To: field of Mail on Mavericks . Thanks to the various responses here, which confirm this previously exisiting functionallity is now broken, I at least have a work-around.

It seems that it is only Smart Groups which no longer work. I found these really useful as all it needs is a peice of text in the Notes field of an individual Contact to automtically keep the Smart Group updated. The work around is to create a new 'static' Group in Contacts and drag the names from the Smart Group into there. Now, typing the static group name in the To: field enters all the required recipients in one go - just how it used to be.

I agree with the OP, however, that this is a bug which should be fixed in a future version of Mavericks. Please.

I'm with you Dave Harris. Exactly my sentiments.

Partial good news is that I found a reasonable work around at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5490015?

Hope it is useful to you.
