I've just upgraded (?) to Maverick and am having a few problems. Mainly, how do I select to send and email to a 'Group'? Mail on Mountain Lion was so easy and now this? I thought upgrades were supposed to make things easier/quicker/better. I've had several other 'problems' but this one should have been a no-brainer.

I am not seeing any difference in sending group emails using Mail 7.0 in Mavericks 7.0.3. Please provide a a step-by-step description of what you are doing and what is happening when you try to send a group email.

I have the same issue.  I used to be able to double click or drag a group into the to field in a new message.  With Mavericks it will not let me do that.

Hello Joe, In prior versions of Mail, in the upper right of the window were several icons including one siloete that took me to a smaller version of the Contacts App. There I could select either individual contacts or groups as required. In the Maveric version of Mail the siloete icon does NOT appear but rather an icon of a 'paperclip' for attachments. The only way I've been able to fill in the To:, Cc: or Bcc: fields is to click on the "+" in blue at the right particular field line and this gives me a drop-down of the Contacts App but does NOT allow me to select the groups to the address line. I'm having to click on each individual name to put them into the address field which is very frustrating.

There MUST be a better way!!

Okay, now I see what you are getting at. The Mail Tool Bar is customizable. On the Mail Menu bar select  View > Customize Toolbar and drag the Addresses icon to the tool bar and you are in business. Another alternative, if you have people assigned to groups in Contacts, is to simply type the name of the group in To address field and Mail will automatically fill in with all of the addresses in the group.

Personally I love the customizable tool bar, but the downside comes a year or so from now and I get a new version of Mail and by then I will have forgotten I had customized everything and find myself asking, "what happened to that handy icon I used to do....".

Thank you Joe... such an easy solution but so well hidden. I really appreciate your help.

That icon still does not make mail work like before.  You cannot drag or double click any name or group from the conatcts library and have them fill in the to list in message.  Not sure why Apple made that chnage?

You are right tbirdvet, I was premature with my evaluation. This DID NOT help my situation

Hi Jeo, I was a bit premature in my evaluation. I now have the drop-down list available in my Mail window but I still CANNOT 'drag' names or groups to the To, Cc or Bcc header line. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Brian@FWB:  after doing some research I found that Apple changed the mail program in Mavericks.  You can no longer drag or double click on group and have it go to new mail address.  You either type the name of the group in the "To" line or if mail is closed, right click on group name in contacts and choose send email and it will open mail and fill in names.  Not sure why Apple made this change.  I do not like this.

tbirdvet: Yeah, I did a bit of research myself on some of the other complaints by members of this blog and finally found a solution I can live with but it's still not as good as previous versions. With the Mail window open I select individuals or groups or portions of groups (shift/command click) and then just click on the Bcc, Cc or To field at the top of the Contacts window and they are entered into the Mail window. Not quite as easy / intuitive as the click and drag of old but equally functional.

    Cheers

You can add the Address book icon in the top of your open email (by right-clicking the top of the window and selecting Customize Toolbar, then drag the Address icon into the toolbar). Once that's added, click it. It will open up your address book. Select your Group that you wish to send to, and in the Address window you just opened, click To (or CC or BCC). It will insert the group into the email in the appropriate line.

I agree, this is not as intuitive at all. In fact, I used to be able to start typing a group name, and it would autofill the rest. Doesn't do that anymore.

This is not your daddy's Apple company anymore...

    Hello,

There seems to be a big difference in sending group mails with maverick. I use groups so that individual addresses don't show up. But with maverick a had a realy bad supprise seeing all of the addresses expanded in the mail I send.

I checked the preferences and the option "when sending to a group show all memeber addresses" isn't checked but they show up anyway. I tested with a small group and there seems to be now way to avoid it.

This is realy embarassing and I'm very ashamed that I send a message that way to numerous professional contacts.

Please correct this bug fast........ since mail isn't usable in a professional setting this way.
