When CCCing back to the Internal, you need to erase the internal drive, some items have the same name & location in 10.5 as 10.4, but are totally different.
On the Essentials, apparently it's having trouble reading the DVD for the basic non-optional parts of OSX.
Try making a copy of it in Disk Utility, DU tries a bit harder to read the Disc than Installer does.

Once I have a disc image - on an external bootable drive - can I launch the installer from the .dmg file - and install it on the internal hard drive? Or do I need to use the new disc that I burn - in the optical drive to lanuch the Installer?
