Q: OS X Mavericks failed to download

Hi,

I'm having an error message 'OS X Mavericks failed to download' every time when I try to download it. Sometimes it took some time to happen, like after the process is around 50%, or sometimes just happened after a minutes. I tried over 10 times and this still persist! I didn't change my DNS settings, I'm using my ISP's. Anyone facing this problem too? How can I fix this???

Thanks in advance,

Nathan.

I finalley downloaded Mavericks to my Mac Book Air with OS Lion using this procedure:

    - Open App Store and click "Check for Unfinished Downloads" in the "Store" menu.

    - Then go to "Purchases" in the same "Store" menu; you should see Mavericks in the first line.

    - Click "Sign Out" in the same "Store" menu before clicking "Download" Mavericks in the Purchases window.

    - Then click Mavericks to the left of the just clicked "Download". You should see the word Downloading in the bar under the Mavericks app icon.

    - The Download started. It takes a couple hours to complete the 5 Gb, and another hour to complete the installation.

    - The downloading may be monitored with the "Activity Monitor.app" in the Utilities folder in Applications.

Selecting Network, it shows full activity, and the data received increases.

    Happy installation for you too,,,

    FOUND THE TRICK!!!

Try this - Go to appstore, start downloading the OS. Go to the Launchpad, the OS icon should appear there. Press and hold  the option button and you will see the X sign appear on the left top side of the icon, press it and accept the delete. Restart your AppStore and start download from the begining. Hope this helps...

Screen Shot 2013-10-31 at 3.22.46 PM.pngThank you. It does not work.

I do not know what kind of router my school uses: a wire comes through the wall, and it works. But I did try your suggestion, and connected using my mobile hotspot. It does not pass the 995KB.

I also tried vallderrama1's suggestion of canceling and restarting the download, even though I think that's another variant of using terminal to get to whatever appstore folder that is and deleting it, trying again, and I've tried that four times.

I've signed in and out of the store like atrenqua has.

Worldshare's guess that we-with-problems have systems too old or full or unprepared for Mavericks does not apply to my case. This computer is young and clean and not full.

I have tried every single suggestion multiple times. There is no progress.

There is a change, however. I used to not see Mavericks on the "purchases" tab, and now I do - with a failure message: "an error has occurred".

Again - I am not getting a little bit to download at a time, and then failure after a spell. I can download 995kb perfectly well, and all attempts beyond that are automatic, immediate "error has occurred".

I've pretty much given up, except I do need this to do my job. My opinion of Apple hasn't been this low since 1994. Pretty frustrating.

    I do appreciate your suggestions.

    Hi

The 995 issue is specific to you and others that have the BT / 2-wire routers.  That would be the area to check.  I dont have the issue so cant confirm the method for leaping over the block at 995 ( maybe you need to leap before it halts st 995?)

I cant even get my download to start consistently. I gave up, especially as mavericks Apps seem not to be too much of a progression.

Yes. That's what I was replying to. I tried jumping the 995 with my mobile hotspot. Nothing doing.

If it's a known issue Apple should fix it.

    Thank you.

As i say, the hotspot is not a tested workaround. Download from a different ISP maybe a better option.  It isnt an Apple issue, it is a large file issue with BT/ 2-wire kit.   Is yours BT?  If it is, then look to them for a solution. Secondly a school network will have all manner of barrier **** that could be a hold up.  I'd seek another network before blaming Apple.

Agree with Spinalman, I don´t think is an Apple issue. As Spinalman pointed out, a school network has firewalls, etc..  As I have wrote before, it probably has to do with a firewall or other program blocking the DL, internet connection or even your Apple ID.

You should call Apple Care or take your Mac to the retailer, I´m pretty sure they will find the problem in a sec.

I had this problem, with various symptoms including:

    1. The download stopping after 200-300-500-900Mb, or
    2. The download restarting repeatedly.

It struck me as odd as I have never encountered issues with this before. I decided to look into my router firmware settings to see if anything there could possibly be causing this, and thinking that I might change my DNS to Google DNS to see if that would help.

I discovered that my router has a filtering setting (that appears to be separate to the firewall setting, as I had tried disabling the firewall and that hadn't worked either).

I use a Belkin N600 DB Wireless Router, and under Parental Controls --> Website Filters, the 'Block malicious sites' setting was enabled. This prevented me changing the DNS as well.

Once I disabled this (changed the setting to 'No Filters'), the download started to be faster almost immediately, and I'm now at 3Gb and still going...

I recommend checking your computer firewall and your router firewall for any parental filters, as these will route your DNS through proxies that might abort the Apple download, or flag it as malicious.

    Hope this helps.

My download of the OS X Mavericks failed many times but it resumed automatically (even after restarting the system). However, when the download had reached 3.4 GB it again failed and I completely lost it. Once i resumed the download it started to download afresh from Zero MB. Wonder where the downloaded data went.
