Q: iBook Preview hyperlinks not working - works in iBook Author

I'm trying to create an interactive map in iBook Author, and I've created text hyperlinks that are linked to different images (maps). When I'm working in iBook Author - all of the links work as they should. When I go to preview it on the iPad, they no longer work. I've tried killing the app, restarting the iPad, previwing it on a Mac, exporting it as an .ibook file - with no luck. How can I get the hyperlinks to work properly on the iPad?

iBook Author, iOS 7.0.2

A Preview is just a dumbed down PDF...a rough representation of your actual ibook.

Instead, always use iBA's Share/Export menu to output an .ibooks file, then drag that to iTunes - sync to your iPad and/or view via Mavericks on your computer to test all features.

As for your links....are these internal to the book or external?

I opened the .ibooks file in iBook on the iPad - but the links still did not work. I didn't sync it directly through iTunes so I'll try that (I emailed the file to myself and opened it up that way).

They are all internal links. Each text link is linked to an image within the file. The only links that work are on the first page - but the rest do not. It's frustrating because everything acts as it should in iBook Author - just not in iBook.

Here's a little bit about how the navigation is supposed to work (if that helps):

    Page 1 (main menu):

       - Link to 1st Floor page

        - Link to 3rd Floor page

    Page 2 (1st Floor page):

       - Link to 1st Floor Northwest Wing page

       - Link to 1st Floor Northeast Wing page

       - Link to 1st Floor Southwest Wing page

       - Link to 1st Floor Southeast Wing page

        - Back link to go back to page 1 (the main menu)

        - Has 4 interactive pop-up widgets to provide a high-level overview of the area.

Page 3: (3rd floor) - same links except for 3rd floor.

Page 4 (1st Floor Northwest Wing):

        - Full of Interactive pop-up widgets to explain different areas

        - Link to go back to page 2 (1st Floor page)

This repeats for the rest of the wings.

Confirm your process against - Hyperlink Two Words/Text - in iBA Tips and Tricks 01

As for testing, it's your choice of process, as long as what you're testing is the .ibooks file, not a preview. Be sure to delete old versions off the iPad first in any case.

    Hi KT.

I am trying to add a hyperlink from one word in my ibook to another. I am able to create Bookmarks, but when I click on Hyperlink in the Inspector, the "enable as a hyperlink" is greyed out, as is the option "link to page" and i can't type in URL either (although that is not what i need). The only clickable items is Make All Hyperlinks Inactive.

Any ideas on how to re-activate the hyperlink functionality?

This is a modified template... but not one i created, so if that has something to do with it, please provide some additional guidance on how to modify.

    Thank you in advance.
