Q: What has been lost in Numbers 3.0 upgrade?

Has anyone got a list of features that has been lost in the new version of Numbers?

I am aware (and disappointed) that the useful Categories feature has gone (I have requested this feature back on relevant Apple page). I think I also saw that Print view had disappeared.

What else has gone? I make extensive use of filtering and sorting - if those features have been watered down then I think I may not bother updataing.

Here's my updated list. I'd really appreciate it if anyone who knows how to do the things in this list with Version 3 would reply with an explanation. I checked all these reports out as well as I could, but I certainly could have missed something.

Function or feature or issue

Reorganize Panel gone, no multi-level sort.

Categories View gone

References now don’t follow sorted rows as they did before.

Table Fills are not supported

German user can’t use decimal points from numeric keypad.

Split Cells is gone

Sheet View seems to be the only view available during editing. Page view only available in the Print dialog.

Page Headers and Footers are gone

Edit Toolbar (add, delete, rearrange tool icons) is gone.

Scatter Charts no longer can accept Dates on X axis

Dates can’t be used for X-Axis values in Scatter Charts

Custom Formats gone

Ability to set margins gone

Cell border custom line weight is sometimes lost when using Filter Rows

Ability to sort selected rows is gone

Header text is used in cell references and you can’t turn this “feature” off

Can’t set Page Margins; they default to about 1” all around

Formula Bar is gone, replaced by a field at the bottom of the Numbers window in which the expression is displayed but can not be edited

Graphics Inspector no longer treats a Table as an Object that can be formatted by the Graphics Inspector tools

Comments only display as Tool Tips now, can’t be static displays

Can’t open Numbers 08 documents

The first time you choose Media from the fixed toolbar, it takes a considerable amount of time to load in Numbers 3; much longer than in the previous version. Also, the lack of ability to search wastes a lot of time finding the photo you want to insert.

Sorry, I didn't mean autofill, I meant autocomplete, which I believe is missing from Numbers 3, unless someone knows different!

If you mean when you're typing in a column it will automatically insert a value after you've typed a few letters, based on what you have typed before in that column, then that's gone.

You can format the cells in that column as pop-up and set up a list in there to save typing. There's no keyboard shortcut like the old spacebar to activate the pop-up list but it's still pretty convenient for me. And using a pop-up will keep your data cleaner. No typos (not capitalizing when it should, etc., etc.) creep in.

I believe you can still make and use custom cell formats - but in a roundabout and disappointing way.
1) Make the custom cell / number / etc. format in Excel.
2) Save the Excel file.
3) Open the Excel file in Numbers. The custom format will be properly imported to Numbers.
4) Copy the cell from the Numbers file you just opened into your desired Numbers file.

I think I'm going to make a special Excel file just to copy and paste the special formats I need.

Numnbers 3.0 is amazingly good at importing Excel .xlsx files. The only trouble I had was when the Excel file was password protected; I had to remove that protection or Numbers would crash.

You don't have to figure anything out. iWork9 is still in your applications folder. Use it until Apple comes to its senses and a newer version actually has inprovements.

Check your applications folder and you should find the previous version of iWork.

Then when Apple comes to its senses you can upgrade.

Yeah, that's just great. Tossed #s 3 in the trash after two days of frustration. Now I have to re download to export the files I used back to #s 2 so I can open them again. Steve must be spinning.

I already tried information in the formula pane but sometimes that information isn't enough to find the error(s) in the formula.

Reorganise is a real blow for me. I use that option more often than not.

Also are the developers going blind because seriously how much realestate do they need and 125% as default with no option to change the default, What's the wrong with 100% being default?.
