Ah OK so it's his fault

I would like to know how to colour the folders.
Some suggestions were posted earlier in this thread HERE.

See the section Use a color or photo as the window’s background in this Apple doc:
OS X Mavericks: Customize Finder windows

I think Apple should read what you posted. http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

I am also disappointed the labels are gone. I am a student and I used them to keep folders organized visually. There needs to be an option to turn that back on as the "update" takes away the functionality of it. The only reason I updated was that I was forced to: icloud stopped working immediately after the update came out.
It would be even better if the folder colors themselves could be changed instead of only having blue. This is not out of aesthetic concerns but again, the functionality that was lost. It seems like apple is more concerned about aesthetics than functionality here.

Nov 2, 2013 1:09 PM in response to Tom in Londonby hotwheels 22,hi Tom.
my understanding is that ive is heavily involved in the OS. iOS7 i think shows a lot of his fingerprints and to really nice effect IMHO.
some things like this colored label issue is definitely a bridge too far. also, someone mentioned a sort of clunky method to undo a label which reminded me of the clunky contacts UI.
to get to contacts on my iPhone i have to click on contacts, click on groups, click on "all contacts" to turn /off/ the all contacts showing - and then i have to click on a single group to get this group to show. if i don't see my contact in this group, i then have to go back to groups, uncheck this group and then check another group and go and see if the contact is in there. my only recourse to clunking around like this is to check all contacts all the time which is totally unworkable.
i hope and sort of wish they go back to a UI in contacts that just lets me click on a group and see the contacts in that group.
my feeling is that they are implementing tags in the same way as they implemented groups in the sense that they want you to be able to have multiple selections but this results in a totally clunky and repetitive workflow when for instance you just want to see one group or you just want to take of all the tags in Mavericks AFAIK.
anyway, i think they went a bit overboard with the slicking up of Mavericks and they need to bring back the functionality of colored folders/files.

We shall see. But like you said, for the time being..

and PathFinder, possibly TotalFinder if they decide to implement it
If anyone finds another patch, please post it here -
Nov 2, 2013 2:43 PM in response to dkvl20fgdvd2by Shaun Ferguson,You can also change the icon on a folder.
Pick your icon and command-i for info. Click on the icon at the top of the info panel and copy it.
Click on the folder you want this icon on, command-i for info. Clck on the folder icon at the top of the panel and then paste the icon you chose.
Makes life much more interesting. I have quite a few amusing icons from pre-OSX days which can be used. PM me if you'd like some.

Nov 2, 2013 2:52 PM in response to Shaun Fergusonby Laralyn10,Changing icons isn't going to replace labels for me. I need to switch 'em out a lot and also have the color show for the whole line not just the folder... OH and for files too. It's just not practical.
But modding icons is an option for just customising folders a bit. I seem to have some custom icons that I made in PS with some weird tool at some point, not even sure how I did it. I have a few icon sets I got from somewhere floating around too.. so yeah, sure, I wouldn't mind collecting some more

Nov 3, 2013 11:09 PM in response to joyful_oneby Zaap,I switched to Path Finder. I just couldn't take the new color tags method. As thers have said here, many of us have depended on color labeling in our work for years. For me, it would have added so much hassle to my workflow and slowed me down. For those that don't think it's a big deal, I'd encourage you to try an occupation where you're generating tens of thousands of image and audio files, processing them at breakneck speed, and needing to keep track of who revised what among a team of several people using the same server shares.
Color labeling was one of the key things that OSX had over Windows and other OS's. The visial cue of color labeling is vastly superior to the new tagging method.
Feels a little weird to ditch the OSX Finder after all these years, but I have to say Path Finder is a worthy replacement. I'm not complaining; the new OS was free, I just had to pony up for a Finder replacement.
