Q: Mail is sending my emails when I'm still writing the email

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any solutions to this problem.

Mail is sending my emails before it's even finished. If I'm writing an email and I already have the 'To' section with people's address, Mail also sends the mail when I'm still not finished. There's not even a notification that it's sending an email, it randomly and automatically sends emails.  It seems to get the 'autosave' and 'send' function confused.

It happens when I'm taking time to compose a message. It doesn't happen when I compose and send a message if I take less than 5 minutes.

I have a macbook air osx 10.8.5

Would really appreciate for help as it is a frustrating and embarrassing problem.

Thanks.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

A general repair to fix odd behaviours in Mail is  Mailbox > Rebuild.

Have an up-to-date Time Machine or other backup before attempting any major software updates or rebuilds.

If that does not work then reinstalling the Mail program may help.  Unfortunately that requires a reinstall of  OS X.

Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.

Before you start the reinstall use Disk Utility from the recovery partition to Repair Disk on your system volume.  Run it twice.  If it does not finish normally the second time then do not reinstall. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836

Also before you start the reinstall have a backup of your data, preferably two of them (since Time Machine can fail during a restore).  Most likely you will not need this but it is prudent to have an up-to-date backup before performing any major software changes. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4055
