Q: iPad Useless

It is with a degree of regret that Ipost here. Having paid £550 on a device which is absolutely useless. Just the basics dont work.

I've religiously followed all the good advice available on the forum.

 

I find now it is impossible to move a photo from my imac to my ipad. How Apple;'s products have deteriorated at an alarming

rate over the last 2 years.

 

I cannot move a jpg from my iMac via airdrop, via bluetooth, via iCloud, the only way to do it is to email myself using a

photograph as an attachment. The ipad IS set up for iCloud, but when i put the icloud url in the URL box, just a white screen. It never makes

it to the domain. The mac and ipad can see each other via bluetooth, however a message on the iMac says the iPad does not have this service

available. I cannot even find where airdrop is on the ipad..

 

Its a iPad 4 Retina 64gb.

 

I would like to do the same with a video file of my band performing. a 50mb Mp4 file. No way to do that either.

What exactly is an ipad designed for ? It seems a complete white elephant 

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    You can transfer photos using WiFi if you have a third party app for this purpose. I have this one, but there are others in the App Store.

    You can sync photos using iTunes on the Mac.

    iTunes: Syncing photos - Support - Apple

     

    You cannot access iCloud.com on your mobile device. You can drag your photos into Photo Stream using iPhoto on a Mac and the photos will appear in the photo stream on the iPad. You can save the photos to the camer roll from there.

    Thank you for this. I am very frustrated so apologies.

     

    The photo is on the mac and I want to move it to the ipad. I tried your suggestion to drag the jpg - you cant drag a photo into photosteam in iphoto, and you also cant 'drag' a photo from photo stream to ipad..

     

    I dont think its possible so far as i can see..

    I followed this exactly and the iPad seems unable to finish the sync.

    You can sync photos using iTunes on the Mac.

    this is syncing one photo following this guidance. So the sync option is no an option.

    For the record both the mac and ipad have all the latest updates installed..

    See if anything in here works for you. You probably have to add the photo to your iPhoto library if you haven't done so already. I'm not sure why the photos are not syncing for you.

     

    Add photos to My Photo Stream manually

    You can manually add photos from your iPhoto library to My Photo Stream whether automatic uploading is on or off.

    1. Select one or more photos.

    2. Do one of the following:

      • Click the Share button in the toolbar, click iCloud, and click My Photo Stream.

      • Click the Add To button in the toolbar, click iCloud, and click My Photo Stream

      • Drag the photos to iCloud in the Source list, and click My Photo Stream.

      • Choose Share > iCloud, and click My Photo Stream.

        The photos are uploaded to My Photo Stream and can be viewed on all the devices in your photo stream.

    iCloud can store up to 1000 photos from My Photo Stream. When you add a new photo to My Photo Stream after you reach the 1000-item limit, the oldest photo is removed.

    Photos remain in iCloud for 30 days, and are then removed automatically.

    You can delete individual photos from My Photo Stream.

    Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

     

    Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

     

    Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

    Hey Rob,

    Do you live near an Apple Store? If you do you might consider signing up for some One on One times with there support staff. The comments you make describing what you want to do seem easily accomplished once you know how.

    I am making these suggestions based on the assumption that you have an iCloud account and are using iCloud on the Mac and the iPad. If you are, then yes, the photo will appear in the Photo Stream album of the photos app on the iPad if you perform the steps successfully that I posted from the help site.

     

    Along with Ralph's suggestion of trying to get some help at an Apple Store, the manual is a pretty handy thing to have.

    Hey Ralph, to be honest it would be so much easier on a pc laptop or netbook, it seems the ipad is really only a device for browsing the internet. Its looks very flash, but doesnt seem to do a great deal. I dont want to have to go and buy a photo kit just to transfer a photo from my mac to my ipad. PC's seem to work well wirelessly, however it seems impossible to transfer anything wirelessly to the iPad.. Maybe im expecting too much.

    Hi Demo, I have an icloud account which I use for my iMac and retina mac book, I cant seem to see iCloud on the ipad although it says it is set up to view icloud using the ipad. Its an iPad 4 retina

    The iPad is a great and very useful device. But as you're finding out, it has it's limitaions. Take for example my reading/replying to this very discussion forum. I was on my iPad just a minute ago typing a reply. Sure, I could type it just fine but I'm much slower entering text on it than with my MacBook Pro. I can't type nearly as fast on the iPad as I can on my MacBook...so what I did was turn off the iPad and switch over to the MacBook to type this reply. Same thing going from typing a reply on my iPhone 5. Yes, it's very doable but not very efficient (It may just be me). Instead of typing a reply on my iPhone, I'd rather do it on my iPad. And instead of typing it on my iPad, I'd rather type it on my MacBook.
