I don't have the app in front of me but next to where you enter the frame size there is a buton marked Options.

There is something else going on here besides interlacing. The multiple fields make it look like it's a frame rate that's been converted to 29.97, maybe the original is 24 with pulldown added to it. That would need to be removed before the media is deinterlaced.

In terms of Ripit's involvement in the process, I have also tried this using Streamclip, direct from a DVD and get the same results, so for all intents, Ripiit is not a factor here.  I only use it to get the encrypted DVD on to my drive (see earlier note about the material being my own work!).

If there is protection/encryption on the disc, that might also somehow be interfering with the extraction.

Nope.  Same thing from the unencryped version of the disk.  (So why am I using the encrypted?  Different content, but same title sequence!)

The options button does nothing when I click on it.

Not sure about the frame rate issue.  This was mastered to broadcast tape and then output for this commercial DVD.  It was produced in Canada, so why would frame rates be changed?  (I'm in Canada).  Anyway, how do I tell what's going on with this?

If you set the frame size to the correct 720x480 the option button should give you 4:3 or 16:9.

If it went from tape it could have pulldown or out. If it went from the digitized tape it could be anything. It just does not look right at all.
