I purchased a cd from Amazon. My iTunes 11 won't play or import the songs. I loaded on an old windows laptop, but it converted to wma. The cd loads in iTunes but an error message comes up can't find file when tries to import. Cd plays fine in car and on windows machine. Will not play in itunes either. I have restarted iTunes. Logged in and out. Read this entire thread. Anybody got any suggestions?  Where are the apple iTunes guys on this?

    Hi all,

    Try this:

    1. Copy music from cds, downloads, media, or  wherever to a folder on your hard drive.

    2. Drag/Copy them from there to Mac HD/Users/User/iTunes/iTunesMedia? Music

    3. Click on  'Music' in the Library in the iTunes window

$. Double cilck on a  song and hopefully it plays for you!

    Cheers,

    P

    Thank you Phil!

That worked.  But I found out that my external apple superdrive was ?defective.  I borrowed another on from a friend and it played and imported just fine.  But the strange thing was, that other cd's played and imported fine.  Funny that the newest one didn't work.  That's the 2nd external apple superdrive that I have had to replace, I think I'll do the unthinkable and go to another brand!  Thanks for the suggestion.

This is honestly the last straw for me. The last few devices I've bought have been apple products, but with this issue about not being able to add new songs, the home sharing debacle, apple maps etc I'm just not going to buy any more. While none of these problems on their own are desperately serious, it's the complete opposite of "it just works" which was the reason I bought Apple stuff in the first place.

If you all want a quick fix - again this will not solve problems:

Open:  itunes > itunes media > Automatically Add

Add your media to this folder (Automatically Add)

Open Itunes and it will be there.

I've been having a similar problem - an imported CD will not appear in my itunes list, but will appear in 'recently added'.  It was an old CD, so itunes didn't recognize it.  I put in an Album name, but not an Artist (figuring that wasn't necessary).

As soon as I downloaded it again, but added an Artist Name, the import worked just as it's supposed to - the CD was available as an Album and I could add it to my iphone.

    Anyway, hope that helps somebody!

    Hmm...

    I'm having The Problem, now.

I've tried adding the discs to my Library by clicking on 'Add to Library', but nothing happens. (Because this is a 'greatest hits' collection, when I double-click on a song, it plays...but as the original song from the original album, not the greatest hits album.)

I tried putting the files in 'Automatically Add to iTunes'...but then the files disappear.

I've logged-out of iTunes, logged back in...all to no avail.

I've never had this problem before, where iTunes will not do as it's supposed to. : )

Anyone have any other suggestions? (I believe I've tried everything suggested...)

    s/

Same problem, but I've jsut bought a new iMac and transferred everything across from my old iMac. All my music came across, but I have been unable to add any new songs.

When I checked the iTunes Preferences>Advanced nothing had come across for the iTunes Media folder location. As soon as I specified the location everything worked perfectly.

I was unable to import anything into itunes. No indication that anything was happening and nothing showing up anywhere. I updated Quicktime and now I can import like I used to. Strange correlation to me but whatever works.

My itunes will play imported music on my computer, but on my phone it acts like it is downloading them, but never does. If I delete them so that I can try to redownload them, it won't redownload them. These are songs that I have listened to on my phone several times before. This is very frustrating because I have spent hours putting this music on my phone and now it wont play?! It's rather irritating to pay for music only to have to fight to listen to it!!

I just did it by highlighting the songs in the album and right clicking my mouse to add to playlist, selected playlist and all was good.  Hope this helps.
