Q: finder keeps restarting in 10.8.4

Macbook air, OSX 10.8.4

Finder keeps closing & reopening windows about every minute or so.  Desktop icons flash and typically finder window closes or goes to background.

Could be coincidence, but only started happening *after* I did a verify disk and repaired (via Repair / Disk Utility on restart) said "errors" (weren't many).

Any suggestions?  All the related stuff I read here or find via google seems too old on for other OS version to apply.

    Hi guys!

I had this problem on Mavericks today and spent 4 hours dealing with it. I have tried EVERYTHING:

    • deleting finder prefrences
    • deleting .DS_Strore files
    • cleaning desktop
    • login as a guest
    • login in safe mode
    • even reinstalling OS X (not clean install, though)

    nothing helped.

But, eventually, I saw the post in Google groups, and it solved my problem. Solution is to obvoius.

GOOGLE DRIVE WAS THE PROBLEM. Indeed, Google Drive very closely works with finder, and, as I suppouse, at some point they had conflict, which made finder relaunch all the time.

So, I quit GoogleDrive and even without restarting Finder started workiking normally.

P.S. I was even ready to buy external drive to make backup and make clean install.

    Hope, it will help you!

I also had this problem on Mavericks today. Quitting Google Drive solves the problem, it is working so far. Hopefully Google or Apple will come out with a software update to fix this issue

I just started having this same problem on Maveriks today and changing Google Drive prefs seems to have resolved it for me as well.

Disabling the option to "show sync file staus icons and right click menu" has fixed the isuuse for me. I found this solution by looking at the Google forums.

Google Drive was the problem for me too.

Glad I fixed it quickly by looking at the Activity Monitor.

It's going to the trash bin for me since it was sucking a lot of CPU

This started happening to me too today. I am also running Mavericks (clean install) and things have been working fine with Google Drive. BUT a few moments ago I suddenly get a Google Drive message out of the blue stating "Google drive will need your permission to enable finder integration features" so I clicked okay, entered my password and suddenly my finder starts crashing like crazy! After disabling the "Show file sync status icons..." as per Todd's instructions, all was well again. SO this is definitely a bug with Google Drive as I had ZERO finder issues before this little Google message popped up this morning. There must have been a Google Drive update or something to that effect as I already had Google Drive installed on my machine.

Same thing was happening to me today. I guess Google must have pushed an update to Drive that didn't go well with Mavericks Finder. Simply quitting Drive and then relaunching fixed the issue for me. No need to change the "Sync file status".

Killing Google Drive fixed it for me - but I am still running Mountain Lion. (Nothing Maverick about me). Thanks for the tip folks.

Thanks a lot Tsilvius, Google Drive was indeed the cause for my constantly crashing Finder, although I choose to just delete this junk rather than change settings.

Google drive was the issue. Changing the settings like tsilvius said worked perfectly. Thnx tsilvius!

Also looked for KanBox, but nothing even remotely like that on my computer. No idea what it is.
