Q: OS X Mavericks: Finder closes and restarts

Since the last update (the last i-Books update I think), the Finder closes and re-starts almost every one minute...

This wasn't happening at the first 10 days that I had Mavericks installed. I have already ran the "Repair Permissions" from the Disk Utility, but not thourgh the recovery mode though.

It is so annoying.

I had the exact same thing. Only seemed to start today (5th Nov). Quitting Google Docs app also worked for me.

Hi, I have an added problem.

I can't save or transfer files to USB.

And I feel like a luddite but with the crashing I can't find the finder.plist file.

    Killing me!!

    Thanks everyone though! :-D

Got the same issue and Google Drive is the source.

It seems to get resolved by unchecking the ‘Show file sync status icons and right click menu’ under Preferences.

    Edit: Uhm, as stated above.

Unchecking "Show file sync status icons" did the trick! No more Finder-restarts. Thanks

Except Mavericks has been out for 3 weeks, I've been running it sice release and this is the first I've seen this (and seems to be the first ANYONE has).  Something changed with OS X on Nov. 4 that is causing an issue with Google Drive and showing the sync status on the icons.  The Google Drive app has not changed since at least Oct. 26 this year.

I found this thread while searching on this issue after I removed GD, my GD folder (what a PITA to get that restored) and the plist files in an attempt to resolve the issue.  It seems that the sync status preference was unchecked  automatically somehow, but now I have my GD and Finder isn't crashing once a minute.

Well, nothing has changed in OS X - GD has changed, apparently.... Easy to blame Apple and OS X, but it's actually Google (or any other third-party app, for that matter) who should take care of providing software that doesn't crash. As said earlier, Mavericks has been out as a beta for long enough to enable third-party developers to provide us with bug free apps.

    Hi, everybody.

I seem to have the very same problem as you all, except for one thing: I never used Google Drive.

So, I can't use your suggestions about it.

    What can I do?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

    Anita

p.s.: forgot to write that I use dropbox, don't know if it has anything to do with this VERY ANNOYING problem

Thank goodness for this thread. I thought one of my hard drives was dying.

After a really annoying morning of my finder keeping refreshing and not understanding then blaming mavericks...it was Google Drive along. Thank you to whoever figured this out!

No need to quit Google Drive. Just uncheck "Show file sync status icons and right click menu" on Google drive preferences and the problem will go away. Apparently this is not a Mavericks problem and Google updated his software automatically on Nov 4th introducing this annoying situation.

I know I'm asking a very dumb question, but:

where do I find the googledrive preferences?

(I finally found out that once upon a time I downloaded google drive, although I never used it)

    Thanks a lot.

Right-click on the Google Drive icon on the menubar (the little triangle) and choose Preferences.

    thanks, Laario.

I tried to do as you suggest, but when I right click on the googledrive icon I don't get any "Preferences" tab.

I have "get informations", "compress", "burn", "double", "share", "create an alias", "copy".

Is any of these the same as "preferences"?

    Thanks again

    Anita
