According to what I am hearing and reading, the culprit may actually be a pushed update to iBooks. It loose like Google has fixed something on there and to be more compatible. However I would put the blame on Apple for this one. Even though the reason  finder kept crashing was because of Google Drive., Apple was the one who made a modification the caused Google Drive to no longer work properly. Regardless of who's fault it was, it looks like the problem has been taken care of.

I can confirm that Google has fixed the issue.  Just quit Drive and relaunched it.  I reenabled the "Show file status sync icons" preference and my Finder has been completely stable.

I have not used nor do I think I am using Google drive - but I get finder dropping out every 3-5 seconds.  If I say don't reopen it doesn't make a difference.

Seeing I'm not using google drive - unless my sons (who say no) have somehow enabled this - HOW do you find where it might be (screenshots where you don't know where to go not useful - a menu how to get to any screen sort of required).

This is CRAP apple - so some fix to this problem appreciated

It could be some other software causing it.

If you don't think it was related to Google Drive, I would suggest you start a new thread of your own as this one is marked as solved, but appears to not have anything to do with your problem.

Etresoft, who posts here often, created a little utility to list all the things that are running on your Mac: http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

It will scan your Mac and display the results and copy them to the clipboard so you can paste the results here.

You may have to boot into Safe Mode in order to stop those programs from launching at boot, so that you ca figure out what they are and remove them.

If you haven't installed google drive, you won't have it.

If you did install it, there will be an icon on your menu bar at the top of the display.

If you want it, you can find it here: https://www.google.com/drive/
