finder crashes with maverick

    just reinstalled Google drive - this seems to have solved the issue for time being, too.

    Yes that seemed to solve it for me too....What a surprise that Mavericks would conflict with a Google program

    Thank you Thank You for posting this "example"... I was looking in the wrong place for the icon...  My icon was up there on that little menu bar all the time, but I couldnt see it.   I clicked on it and disabled "show file sync status....". I also "quit google drive" as I don't think I have a need for it.     I did a little clicking around in the finder...and all appears to be OK....  Thanks so much...

    When you restart the computer, can we consider that we quit and relaunch the Google Drive application at the same time ?

     

    If yes, i 've restarted several time my MacBook Pro and the issue was still here.

    I deleted everything to do with google drive and I'm still crash free 'touch wood'. Personally, I'm going to give it 2 or 3 days, run a quick time machine and then redownload drive again and see what happens.

    This. Issue happens even if you do not have google drive. It happens even to brand new macs with only stock apps on them. This system is unstable and should be avoided.

    I still have issues.  I've unchecked the icon status (no change), I've disconnected the acount, reinstalled Google Drive, reattached account (no change), called Apple, reset SMC, reset PRAM, verified/repaired disk, no change...

     

    Finder will crash completely, folders will no longer update/show their contents, and even force quitting and relaunching finder will not work.  The only thing that gets it back is to restart the computer, and then it's just a matter of hours before it happens again.  I frequently use google drive in a tabbed finder window, but can't confirm that there's a connection with tabbed finder windows and this problem.  

     

    Called Apple again, and this time they advised me to 1) reinstall mavericks then check back, and 2) if that doesn't work, reformat the whole disk then do a clean install.  Seems like a good solution right?

    Yes that is one solution or consider removing Google Drive completely to see if your Mac can work for a few hours without it.

    If you really need Google Drive speak to Google not Apple, Google are the ones who need to fix the issues it causes.

     

    Or you can revert to an earlier OS assuming the Mac isn't 10.9 only.

    This doesn't help you directly but I've never re-installed it and (touch wood) non of the problems have re-occured. I've just upped my space on other storage platforms to take over the slack until there is a WORKING solution.

     

    It is a shame that so much of the software from the leading players is now so 'ecosystemed', it is always someone else that is to blame  - not a lot of use to those of us in the real world.

    I clear the system font cache which i always do , the finder crashes every 10 seconds. Can i repair or if i reinstall the Mavericks OSX do i lose any of my data ?

    @Roy.A,

     

    You can boot into recovery mode & select the 'reinstall OS X' option. That will install 10.9 'in place' which means the OS files will be installed, but your user data & 3rd party Applications should stay installed.

     

    You should definitely backup before doing this. Installing or reinstalling shouldn't be performed without having a full copy of the data on another disk (or several copies).

     

    You don't appear to have posted any information on what is wrong with the Mac & what troubleshooting steps you have tried, so reinstalling may not fix anything. Clearing font caches won't resolve very many issues at all.

     

    It would be a very good idea if you created your own thread because all the suggestions here may or may not relate to your issue. Just post a link after creating it if you think it is related.
