I had a similar issue when I updated my 4S.
Resetting the Network Settings helped out in my case.

I've done as you said but the problem still persists. I've tried changing mobile operators too. The sim card works just fine in other phones but not in iPhone.

I experience the exact same thing with my iPhone 4. I made an appointment at the Apple Store and after some diagnostics they replaced my phone.

So does that mean there can be problem with the hardware on my iPhone???
Also my iPhone is out of warranty so replacing will be out of equation...
