Sold an unlocked I phone to a chap in Portugal , he keeps stating that he needs our Apple ID to reset the phone. We have erased all content off phone and erased via find my phone. He says it's still asking for password. What do we do? He wants a refund

Hi, help required please. Upgraded I phone 4 to a 5s and sold the iPhone 4 on ebay. This was a factory unlocked phone by vodaphone . It was bought by a chap in Portugal. It was tested and working when left the UK. However after a few days said buyer opened a case as he said it wasn't working as he needed passwords to activate the phone (Apple ID) this we did not give him as this is linked to iPad and other I phones in the household. Phone calls to Apple and vodaphone confirmed unlocking and that not to give id out. We have erased said phone via find my phone and sent him links to force the phone into DFU and restore the phone but today he says the phone is still asking for password. And wants a refund.  We do have some language issues with buyer being in Portugal . What can we do ????
