I'm trying to export a slide show in iPhoto to mp4 on my desktop.  I managed to do it once before with no problems but have since decided to do it again so I could add a few more photos to it.

I picked Export-settings to higest resolution-save to desktop.

I chose about 5 or 6 songs for the slide show. I have tried both play slides for about 3 sec. each and also match pictures to length of music. In both cases the slideshow in Preview played without a problem. I have tried exporting but it seems to get about 3/4 finished and then hangs up on the last photo. I can see it is still working on the last photo as it is still dark. What would be the problem?

How much free space do you have on your boot drive?  Turn off Energy Saving for the duration of the export effort.

Have you tried exporting without the songs to try to isolate the cause?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Just a heads up on my question above. The first slideshows I did were before Mavericks update and I had no problem. I chose Export from file and had several choices for size, I used the largest and my slideshow had 205 pictures. iPhoto has changed since Maverick and now it doesn't seem to work as before.

Energy saving was turned off and screen saver set to one hour. No I haven't tried to export without songs but I didn't have any trouble with previous slideshow. This one is about 10 photos bigger and one song added than the original one. I tend to think Maverick update has something to do with it. The slideshow takes a long time to make.

I can see if it will export original slideshow that was successful as a test if that will help. If not I will try doing it without music as you suggested above.

Yes.  They've limited the sizes you can export to.

Why would they limit size of slideshow?  Nothing came up to say my slideshow is to big to export. I'm running test now on slides without music.

I don't know how to find how much space I have in boot drive.

Select your hard drive on the Desktop and type Command + i to bring up it's Info window. The window will give the the info:

They don't limit the number of slides.  When a slideshow is exported it creates a rather large movie file and if there isn't enough free space you can have problems.

Thank you for your help I really appreciated it.  It seems that for some reason everything is back on track and I was able to complete exporting the slideshow. It took a long time but I'm happy so thank you again.
