I should have meantioned in my first post that this setting was already disabled. Are their certian drives that work better with Macs ? I have found lots of conflicting informaiton about drives not working well with Macs, they drive I have a Segate USB3 3TB (STCA3000101) I found was identified as one that does not work well with Macs. Is there anyway to know what drives work well with Macs ? I could buy that one. I have writen a very simple cron job that I am going to run for a day or two and see if it solves the problem. It is simply doing a ls of the external USB drive every 10 min, hoping that will be enough for the drive to stay spun up. This is ugly, good news is this iMac is turned off when not in use.
