Q: Facetime - camera light

When I launch Facetime, the green light for my camera comes on immediately, even if I have Facetime turned off within the app. I'm used to using Skype, Hangouts etc, where the light indicates that the camera is active and goes off when a call is terminated. I'm not paranoid, but my computer is in my bedroom and I'd like to think that the camera is definitely off except when a call is in progress! Anyone know? Thanks

So I figured that if I "hide" Facetime then the camera light goes out. Doesn't make sense to me that it stays on when a call is terminated or when Facetime is set to "off" in Preferences, but whatever.

Hello Peter

That is correct, the light will come on when the camera is in use. The article below will explain further.

Thanks, I get that the light comes on when the camera is in use, but that doesn't tell me what's going on when a Facetime call is finished but the light stays on. My point was that the behavior seems different with Facetime from Skype and Hangouts where the light goes off when the call is finished, and Facetime is especially odd in that the light comes on even before a call is initiated. Any other answers please?
