Q: Need advice on OS and Safari updates for old iMac

No I looked safari 5.1.7 requires 10.5. firefox was discontinued for g5 also. I agree Mende1 tenfourfox is a new version of firefox that they changed in order for it to work on the g5. That should work fine. It might be slower than safari but it is a new browser that should support everything. I would recommend you to give all links to the official website instead of third-party sites, so it's safer and the user can get more information about the application

The highest Safari OS 10.5.8 can run on a PPC Mac is 5.0.6. Anything higher requires an Intel processor.
