Q: Will the generic OS 9.22 disk work for these three G4 towers ?

Regarding these three G4 towers:

1.   PMG4  1.25   UNI/256/80GB/Combo/RV250/56k, serial ending in PC1

2.  1.25 GHz/256MB/80GB/HD/DVD/CDRW/R9000PRO/KY8D, serial ends in PC4

3.  800 MHz/256MB/40 GB/HD/DVD/CDRW/RA7500/ZIP/MDM/KYBD/GIGABIT/MAC OSX

(none of these have an 800 FW port)

QUESTIONS:

•  Will the generic OS 9.22 install CD make these three machines usable in OS 9.22 ?

•  Will machines #1 and #2 require the special MDD install disks even though they are not dual processors ?

•  How much faster are the dual 1.25 GHz G4s compared to the single 1.25 GHz G4s ?

Thank you.

PowerMac Mirrored Drive Door models--regardless of the number of processors--require the special version of OS9 that was only available on the gray system install/restore disks included with the computer.

However, if you do not require OS9 to be bootable--you will use it to supoprt Classic emulation--a generic OS9 version will work.

Special note: If you find the special version OS9, remember even it will not be bootable unless you respect the roughly 200GB volume size limit of OS9. I set mine at about 195GB and it boots on my MDD 1.25 SP

Here are dual v. single 1.25ghz G4 benchmark comparisons from the Mactracker database (http://mactracker.ca/):

Note, however, that the rating for a dual only applies for apps that are multi-processor aware.

You are awesome.  Thank you.    Have the 1.42 dual processor G4 towers been reliable ?  This particular important application runs only on bootable 9.22 and G4 .  It's currently on a 400 mHz G4 tower.  Will it be compatible on a 1.42 GHz MDD with OS 9.22, or the only way to know is to try ?

Do you have images (dmg) of those important MDD original OS disks ?  If so, will those disks install on the 1.42 GHz DP G4s ?
