Q: What has happened to Apple?

Okay.  I've been an Apple fan since the beginning, but things are falling apart...  Mavericks is buggy.  Mac Mail hangs ALL OF THE TIME..  I've never had to force quit as much as I do now.  My iPhone/iPad is buggy and iTunes is just going nuts.  If I go to a song, it just starts flipping out and moving to other songs (and it never did that before)...  Sometimes when I end a call, it never ends until I shut down my iPhone and restart it...  And don't get me started on final CutPro X.  I really hope that Apple follows Steve Job's ideas, because since his passing, Apple has not been as reliable and as awesome as it used to be..  Please fix...  I'm using the latest MBP Retina and newest iMac and iPhone.   (I liked the way it was.  I wish I could downgrade)...  Thanks..

I upgraded to Mavericks on my mid 2011 iMac and MBP,  also new iWork and iLife.  iOS 7 on my 5, 5c and iPad.  Overall pretty seamless.  A few little glitches but really no more than the first upgrade to Lion. Does anyone remember the Lion upgrade eraseing external fire wire drives? Sorry hearing about the problems people are having, but here's one user that's had a pretty good experiance with the updates.

I've been a Mac user since 1984 and I've seen a lot of updates, some good, some not so good. Overall, it's been a very good experience with Apple. It's been a good ride.  Everything changes, so don't expect Apple to look like it does now in 5 or 10 years.

So  what's happened to Apple?  It's obvious.  Tablet computing is gutting the desktop business and all the players are scrambling to figure out where personal computing is headed.  No one really knows, which is both good and bad for  users.

My current concern is the dumbing-down of software, and for those aging users like me, some of the changes make the products harder to use instead of easier or better.  Main case in point, try using iOS 7 if you have less than perfect eyesite (in other words, be 58 years old lol). I managed with iOS 6  fairly well, and am really struggling with iOS 7 in this regard.  I don't dislike 7 but I can't freakin' see stuff against that white background!

    Yes, I updated logitech. I cant find com.iospirit.driver.rbiokithelper (Which I thought deleted since I no longer use RemoteBuddy) or at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch (4050) in /Library/Extensions/ or anywhere else from your suggestions. This is what is currently in /Library/Extensions/;

It's possible that remotebuddy has been naughty & installed into /System/Extensions. Look for

    /System/Library/Extensions/RBIOKitHelper.kext/

Download LittleSnitch again. It comes with an uninstaller. But you may have to download the latest version first.

    http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html

It is free to try, so download the Trial version and just use the uninstaller.

    Cheers

You have already touched LittleSnitch.kext, when you went digging in /Library/Extensions to create those filename lists.

The name that EtreCheck shows is the developer & app name in reverse domain format. The .kext folder is differently named.

Don't touch those other 234 kexts - those are Apple's & your Mac doesn't like you touching them.

If anything at all is showing with LittleSnitch in it's description then it has not been uninstalled properly and there are most likely other remnants of it floating around.

    Cheers

I am cofused. When I get info for the file:///Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext/ it says version 3.3 which is the latest version. So why is EtreCheck stating that its an old version (at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch(4050))?

Doesn't really matter what version it is, if you wish to get rid of it you need the uninstaller.

    Lets get even deeper then.

Open System Profiler 'Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > System Report'.

Scroll down to Software > Extensions in the left list.

Wait for it to read all the versions.

Select LittleSnitch's kext (don't have it installed so it will be either of the 2 names seen so far).

It will also say the kext version & location.

Be aware that the Finder also reports the 'Application version' & System profiler shows the 'kexts version'. It's possible that the deveoplers have been fixing the kext, but the App remains at the same version. I installed in on a different system & that reported 4052 for the kext.

System Profiler should report 4050 if you have the right file.

    Now remove or update it

I unpluged from the internet, uninstalled (I didnt check the box to Also remove rules & settings.) & reinstalled Little Snitch & still have at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch          (4050) on my EtreCheck report.

    Also did you reboot?

These are system level extensions a reboot is required to clear them out.

So open the file path that is listed for the 'Location:'  of the item at version 4050 in system profiler

    It's probably…

    Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext/
