Q: iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app.  Several hard resets have had no effect.

iPhone 5, iOS 7

    Same problem...

Nothing seems to work. Going tomorrow to the Genius'... But from this thread I assume I shouldn't have big expectations. Hopefully if they can't fix it, they'll waive the $270 as well.

Very annoying, the 5 as given me so many problems in one year

Ugh same problem as everyone on here. front camera works, other one is just a black / frozen screen. Have to make the treck to the apple store tomorrow between classes. Tried a hard reset, restoring to factory settings, talked to a specialist online whom claimed it was a hardware issue, all with no avail. I have a hard time believing it's hardware related though if so many people are having this problem since the ios7 update

I am sad to report I am having exactly the same problem. Rear camera not working. Black screen. Switch from front camera to back camera = blurry image. Hope this gets sorted soon.

    Easiest solution found.....

    Guaranteed to work...

Just take your iphone and knock the corner where the camera is positioned against the palm of your hand lightly, and your camera will work again like magic!

The camera of my iPhone 5 was working fine since it came back from the reparing where they couldn't duplicate the issue but still solved the problem, but yesterday the camera just stopped working again, I was so frustrated... so I started disabling and enabling the camera in the restrictions and restarted it 2 or 3 time but still nothing... but then I came back to this thread I read your sugestion PenangGenius and I tried it a couple of time but no results, then I thought I should restart it to see if it changed anything, and to my suprise it worked!

So knocking it lightly in area of the camera with your palm and restarting it somehow works... maybe it's something to do with the lens...

    Thanks PenangGenius

My trip to the apple store was successful.  I live in Germany for reference, they replaced mine even though I was out of warranty and had a previous replacement because of dirt on the CDD of the Camera. But they are forced to do so by our law if I am correct.

And the best part: I got an iPhone with iOS 6 on it :D

Maybe they did that because the bug is recognised by now or it was just by chance - who knows. I did quote this thread here in my ticket.

Hope that helps some of you get a working device again. See ya!

Could just copy my comment from another user. Exactly the same issues after updating to iOS 7...

Was hoping that today's (Nov. 14) IOS 7.0.4 update would fix the problem, but it has not. Not a happy camper

I see a lot of folks debating with Apple support whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem but I don't think either diagnosis properly describes the situation.

My opinion is that this is a Software and Hardware compatibility issue for an undetermined number of iPhones which presumably have a particular lot/batch of controller/camera that work fine with iOS 6.x but do not work with iOS 7.x.  So it is not exclusively a Software or Hardware issue but rather the combination.

I feel this is an important distinction and would explain why all iPhones upgrading to iOS 7.x don't exhibit the problem.

Of course, you will then get the obligatory AppleCare lecture as the explanation of why your phone still shouldn't have Out of Warranty Coverage.  My response was that I self insure my Apple devices (currently 6 iphones, 1 Mac, 3 iPads). However, I reject the idea that I need to purchase AppleCare for coverage against failed Apple software updates for a currently supported device.

Exact same issue here.  Very frustrating.
