Given the information you provide the only solution is to restore your backup from before this happened
If you want more than that you have to share information first. What problem were you having? Which of Old Toad's thousands of posts did you follow? What exactly happened?

Thanks for getting back to me. this is the Old Toad message I followed:
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
I did all these steps and lost all recogination of my photo library. I must have done something wrong?
My original problem was extremely slow operation of all functions of the I-photo program.
