If the Playlists are still complete in iTunes, try another Sync between the iPod and iTunes to see if that resolves the issue.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried re-syncing several times with similar results. The playlists update partially each time (sometimes 18%, sometimes 20%) but never the complete playlists (that are still complete on itunes). I appreciate the reply though.

I too have suddenly discovered that my MacBook Itunes suddenly won't synch any new playlist to my Ipod Classic, though I have plenty of storage space left. I've tried trolling through all the technicalities in the discussion, but I'm lost. Can anyone help?

I can't help you, but I'm seeing a similar thing happen. I just bought a used iPod classic 30GB, installed the latest version of iTunes and was attempting to sync some music last night. I dragged a folder containing multiple subfolders (maybe 15 or so) and a cumulative total of 300 songs.
Out of the 300 that I added to the playlist, maybe 20 show up.
I have the added bonus of not having a majority of the songs show up in All, not just the playlist I created for them.
It shouldn't matter, but I'm using 64-bit Win8.
