Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

Thanks for the advise Tom.
I forgot to mention in my post that I had already done that, but it didn't help.
Only thing I didn't do is a full restore (i.e. as new) since it's a 64gb iPad and it's going to take forever to restore from backup but I'll prob do that if I don't get any other suggestions.
