Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

    Hi Rahul

My Conversation was very good beginning from customer care executive to Senior Customer executive (SCE) to Executive relation (ER) from Ireland. They took their time more than they asked me to wait. They were aware of this image retention(IR) problem faced by other rMBP users. But the reasons given by SCE and ER differed a lot. SCE gave the the edges as a reason for rejection and ER replied that IR is caused by dent on USB port. I was a hardcore Apple fan and never thought that Apple will disappoint me ever upto this extent .

Terrible color shift and backlight bleeding on my LG display. The iPhone makes is look worse but it is still noticable when dark images are displayed. Screen also has terrible IR. Will be getting it replaced soon.

I bought a new customized rMBP 13'' a week ago, and picked up at local store. I noticed the IR issue and a darker bar on the screen in the night I opened the box. Then I took the rMBP back to local store again, looking for a replacement. They took my problematic rMBP away and ordered a new one online. What surprise me was the same new model just ordered online has a waiting time of 3-4 weeks, and the old one has returned!!! Meaning I have no new computer to use for this period of time!!! This is the worst purchase experiences of all times!!!

    Hi randeep.

I got the stuck pixel on my 15" retina. Went to the service center in jaipur(rajasthan) & they replaced the display without any questions. Same thing happend with my friend's 15" & he got the display replacement.

I think you should come to jaipur as the service persons here are very friendly and polite.

Also make a call to apple care india and ask them to replace your display & they will give you the case ID.

    Thanks

Well this has really put the dampers on me buying my first ever 15" rMBP

I will now wait to see if this issue is resolved by Apple before parting with my hard earned £2K

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

    Hi Sachin

I have done all the things. They have given me Case id, their own extension number and their email address.

" Sab try kar liya bhai" If you have kept the job sheet by any chance, in which the problem is mentioned and their action of replacement is also mentioned may solve the problem. I never wanted to get into litigation, but there is no other option left for me my friend.

Hi !  I don't follow the entire conversation.  Can someone resume the last facts ? Does the display are less/equal defective than with the previous generation.    Personnaly, I have a MBPr fev 2013 with an LG rev. 2 display. I hope I will not get IR in some months...

the new LG model SJE1 seems to be less affected than previous generation.

I had this model for 2 weeks it did have any IR issue... even after 10 min with chest test... I had to return it because the right side was more "pink" than the rest of the display. I hope to have a good screen now.

    cheers

Based on that line of code, 'LSN' dicates that it's a Samsung display, revision A01. This is indeed an older display that was used on last year's rMBP.

I went through 4 or 5 rMBPs last year and gave up. Ironically, the last replacement came with a Samsung display (the holy grail at the time as all the others had LG displays with the IR problem) but this screen was the worst in terms of uniformity.

I decided to try again with the latest Haswell generation 15" rMBP and got an LG display of the 'SJE1' variety. No IR problem from what I could see but I've sent it back for replacement due to uneven whites. The bottom left third of the screen had a yellow tint / hue to it compared to the rest of the screen (similar to the image above) and for a £3000+ machine is totally unacceptable.

At the very least, LG seem to have solved their IR problem but at the expense of uniformity it seems.

Let's hope the replacement is up to standard, I can't stand the thought of playing this game again.

This is wrong. The last generation of Samsung displays was LSN154YL01001. The new generation (starting with late '13 MBP) is LSN154YL01-A01, so it is already a revised Samsung (as one could expect in an Haswell MBP).
