How to install Mavericks in VMware Fusion?

Hi there,

I bought brand new MBP with OS X Mavericks.

Then I installed latest VMware Fusion and tried to build VM with Mavericks via 'Reinstall OS X'.

At very begining I am signed to App Store with my Apple ID to download OS and since I provide credentials it replies:

= This Apple ID has not purchased Lion =

AFAIK 10.9 is free or do I miss something?

Thakn you,

Mike

Hi Carolyn

Thank you for your advise. Unfortunatelly it doesn't help (or I didn't get it properly).

When I choose in VMware Fusion to create a new virtual machine it creates VM which has disk with preinstalled OS X Utilities and all choices I have there are:

- Restore From Time Machine Backup

- Reinstall OS X

- Get Help Online

- Disk Utility

I don't have OS X Recovery choice and at that stage VMware Tools is not working therefore no chance to mount or share anything extra. I "vote" for 'Reinstall OS X' and has a feeling like I would be 100% happy if in my past I had bought OS X Lion, but unfortunatelly that is not the case and I am trying to keep it as less complicated as possible.

Once again - I have no option 'OS X Recovery'.

I read some information about taking an image of my real harddisk, converting it into VMware disk and then mounting it as second harddisk, but that way is much more complicated than having Apple ID which was used to purchase OS X Lion.

Sincerely,

Mike

I was in the same boat til I worked this trick out:

(1) Open the App store in your new Mac which runs Mavericks

(2) Search for Mavericks in the store, it should be a free purchase

(3) "Purchase" it by clicking "Free", it will then be in your downloads. Don't bother downloading in the app store, just purchase it for free.

(4) Do your Vmware thing...it'll know you're legit after that.

Downloading as I type this.. 🙂
