Well, yes I know that ordinarily on the Apple TV you would be able to display stuff that apple generally keeps in the cloud for its users...ie..some types of purchases and in this case videos, but I cannot for the life of me get those to list out on the apple tv even though I am logged into iCloud on it.  It's as if my account doesn't exist, in some respects such as videos purchased by me, home sharing...etc.  But I can d/l new videos under the same account, just not list out/or view ones that I've already purchased.

Yes, I've seen the listings of my pc library (music) and streamed it.  And during this here reply I've been attmepting to get a video d/l'd from iCloud again, and it successfully d/l'd.  Went back into the living room and I can now see the video listed on the apple tv from my pc. So now, it seems all is well between my pc and apple tv, but still cannot get anything related to the iMac and the apple tv going.  Yes to your last question up there, I can see the pc's library now including the 1 video that I d/l'd from iCloud onto it via iTunes. I think I got to all you questions up there....please let me know if you want/need anything else to troubleshoot this.

    Thanks

I'll look at the missing purchases on the Apple TV later.

I must admit to being somewhat baffled at this stage.

Have you during this time tried restarting the router.

What are the IP addresses of the Mac and the Apple TV.

Are you using IPv6 on your Mac.

I don't mind telling ya that I'm stumped as well, and have been ever since the free upgrade to OS X 10.9 and the new iOS version.

To answer your questions though, Yes, I have restarted the router. The IP addresses are as follows

    MAC = 192.168.1.134    -  Wireless N connection

    Apple TV = 192.168.1.136    -   Wireless N connection

IPv6???      Wouldn't that prevent me from any internet connection, I believe it would.

That's probably why you asked it isn't it?  I'm typing this reply out on my iMac, but just in case I'm wrong I'll check it out later and report back early in the morning.  I can't seem to find a way to check that at present and I have many more things I have to move on to.

Thanks again for your help.  Again, I'll post about the IPv6 in the morning.

IPv6 is an advanced addressing system, it's rarely needed in most set ups and has been known to be an issue with the Apple TV, it wouldn't stop you using the internet.

Ok, got an answer for you about the IPv6 and whether I'm using it.  It appears that I'm not. I had to do a search on the internet in order to find out "how" to find out.  There's is actually a site with the address  - www.amiusingipv6.com which tells you one way or the other.  So no, I'm not.

Interesting tidbit you gave me there, thanks. I've always thought that IPv6 was used on the LAN side of things and only IPv4 was used on the "Live" internet portion.  I also learned that it's up to your Internet Provider to take you one way or the other IPv4/IPv6.  Probably a good thing that they're not supporting it right now.

Thanks for your help.  I'm still stumped.

Sorry I should have said the IPv6 setting is in the the network system preference.

Ok, thanks.  So I checked that on my particular system and it looks just like what you're displaying above , well except for the ip addresses.  So that's the way it should be correct?

Yes that's correct. I'm looking through some older articles I've bookmarked over time where users have found solutions in quite unusual areas. One area of note though is your security software, I've seen reports that some software needs completely removing and not just turning off, you might try over at the McAfee communities to see if other users of this software have encountered similar issues.

Sure, I can do that, but I don't think it will matter.  I say this because everything was working perfectly prior to the updates of both iOS and OS X recently and now all of the sudden I'm having troubles.  There is 1 minor difference though that I just now remembered, but it shouldn't make a difference one way or the other, at least I don't think it should.  Prior to the updates and then the troubles when everything was working, my iMac was connected to the router via Ethernet, now it is a Wirelless N connection.  Do you think that that would make some difference?  Meanwhile I'll check into whether I'll need to uninstall McAfee.

    Thanks

Being on ethernet shouldn't make any difference but it might be helpful to try it that way again. You might also try creating a new user account on the Mac and seeing if you get the same results in each user.

Ok, switched it over and made my mac wired, restarted the imac/router/apple tv and it still doesn't want to work.  I'm just about ready to give up on this and just use the apple tv in conjunction with my PC instead of worrying about the iMac so much.  At least I could view my purchased movies in the living room.  I'm still wanting to figure out what's up with the iMac/apple tv home share though.  I just won't fret over it so much.  Please keep your suggestions coming and I will apply them to see if it takes care of the problem.

    Thanks

Crap, forgot about your other suggestion of creating another user.  I'll check that out and post back.

Ok, created another user on iMac signed into my regular iTunes account in iTunes and it is still not working.  The exact same error "To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using "iTunes account name goes here".

I'm signed into iTunes on my imac with the same iTunes account name as I'm signed into on the apple tv.  This is not working either.

You know what, it I thought it would do any good AT ALL, I would go out and buy a brand new Apple TV.  But at this point I don't think it would make a difference.

Oh yes, forgot to tell you, at least I think I did...I've been typing alot here...that uninstalling McAfee on the iMac didn't work either.  I didn't think it would, but wanted to give it a shot anyway.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't. I'm thinking it appears to be network or something affecting the network on the Mac.

I'm still open to any suggestions that you have to possibly take care of this and of course I'll keep plugging away at it as well searching and trying this and that, whatever I may find in msg bases around the internet.

Thanks again for all your help.
