    Solved for me!

    Here is how it goes:

    1. Make a change to any one of the 10 setting that can be manipulated under the "Get info" window for the "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate but leave the "When using this certificate: Always Trust"-setting unchanged.

    2. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

    3. Again open the "Get info" window for ""VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate.

    4. Now change the setting of  "When using this certificate: ..." to "Use System Defaults" (the 10 other setting should all show "no value specified").

    5. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

Bingo! - Now it should be possible to log into iBookstore right away!

    very helpful !!

just one hint: a certificate with this name shows up in several categories - the one in "system" has to be changed

Here is a more complete summarization of the procedure:

    1. Start the „Keychain Access“-application (Applications>Utilities)

    2. Selected the "Certificates" at the bottom of the „Category“-window in the left-hand sidebar.

    3. There are should be two "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5“ certificates visible, i.e.

         - one in the „System“-keychain and

         - one in the „System Roots“-keychain.

    4. According to „Roland001“, select the certificate in the „System“-keychain, open the „Get Info“-window (Command+I) and click on the small black triangle to the left of „Trust“ to open the „Trust“-settings.

    5. Make a change to any one of the 10 setting that can be manipulated under the "Get Info" window for the "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate but leave the "When using this certificate: Always Trust"-setting unchanged.

    6. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

    7. Again open the "Get Info" window for ""VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate.

    8. Now change the setting of  "When using this certificate: ..." to "Use System Defaults" (the 10 other setting should all show "no value specified").

    9. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

Bingo! - Now it should be possible to log into iBookstore right away!

In my case both the "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5“ certificates in the „System“-keychain and in the „System Roots“-keychain are set to "When using this certificate: ..." to "Use System Defaults" (in both certificates the 10 other setting all show "no value specified").

No dice, still can't access the ibooks store. Thanks for the help anyway. Hopefully Apple will fix the issue with enough complaints.

Norman Duke, pay attention to the fact that you cannot start by making changes to the setting "When using this certificate: Always Trust" as is describet undir step 5. If you do skip the procedure describet in step 5, the setting will always return to "Always Trust" as soon as you close the "Get Info" window.

Also notice that to be able to make changes to the settings you must to have Administrator rights to the computer in question.

Ya-hoo, I got it. Will these changes affect any other applications? What is the function of this key chain?
