Q: built in camera...video awful w/ Skype AND FaceTime--help

I am not sure if this is the right place, but since upgrade to Mavericks, neither Skype NOR FaceTime video is operating well.  A friend took a screen shot of me and I realized what she meant by screwed up.   I tried using FaceTime and the video there was also dreadful.   Photobooth works Fine.  Therefore, there is something amiss with Skype and FaceTime both which use VIDEO.  Hellooooo.

It would be ludicrous to think I need to UNinstall Mavericks and then REinstall it to get my video to work on those 2 applications.  It works fine on photo booth and imovie, by the way.

SO, apple brains, I look to you to help.  If you have seen my prior posts, I disliked Mavericks off the bat, but did not even realize how much was wrong.  I lost my icloud mail, entirely.  Cannot use Skype or FaceTime because the video quality is horrendous, and I am sure I am forgetting something else I could add.

At this moment, OTHER than uninstall of Mavericks, which I did from the Apple Store online,  HOW can I get at least normal video quality on skype and Facetime?????

Thank you .

Your system info shows you that you are using Mac OS X (10.7.3).  That version is out of date.  You should restart your Mac, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions, and then download and install the latest OS X 10.7 Combo Update. Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the Combo Update.  Then test again to see if your problem is resolved.

If the trouble remains, it seems your internet connected apps are the ones giving trouble.  You do not specifically mention it, but you should be testing your chat connections with more than one contact to be certain that the problem is not at the other end of your connection.

Whenever my internet-connected apps give trouble, I do the following:

    (0) Check that software apps are up to date.  If not, restart Mac and apply the updates.  If the trouble remains:

    (1) Shut down everything in my internet connection path.  For modems and routers that do not have power switches, that means unplugging them from the power source.  Wait about a minute before proceeding.

    (2) Start the modem and allow its self-test to finish.  See the manual that came with your modem if you don't know how to tell when self-test is complete.

    (3) If you use one, start your router and allow its self-test to finish.  See the manual that came with your device if you don't know how to tell when its self-test is complete.

    (4) Restart your Mac and test the connected apps.

    (5) If the problem remains only on connected apps in more than one User Account, close all apps.  Then check your internet speed with a site like http://www.speedtest.netIf you are not getting the speed you need for the video system requirements of your problem apps, contact your ISP for help with the service they provide.

I apologize profusely.  I did not update my profile and my computer info.  I have 10.9 Mavericks on a 21.5" iMac, intel core i5.   So, all of the above mentioned problems I've had began after the upgrade to Mavericks which I installed from the apple store about 2 weeks ago...

Again , I am sorry for any confusion....although I did state I had upgraded to Mavericks in my original question.
