Q: iPhone 5S restarting itself

Anyone else having their 5S sporatically restarting itself?  So far, there seems to be no pattern, other that I'm usually playing a word game on it when it happens.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

    Try This...

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...

Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    If the issue persists...

Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11) Installed on your computer

I've been getting the same thing on iPhone 5s since iOS 7.0.2. It used to happen once a week or so, but after updating to iOS 7.0.3 I get a random reset about twice a day. By reset, I mean the screen suddenly turns black with the white Apple logo for a few seconds then returns to normal. It seems to set my notifications back to the Today tab, and Mail returns to my top most inbox. It's almost like a flash or respring rather than a full reset. I can't replicate it, and it happens even while all apps are closed. I'm hoping 7.0.4 fixes it. If not, I'll make a trip to the Apple store. I haven't done a full wipe and reset yet. I'm hoping to avoid the hassle.

Keep hoping.... until and unless Apple announces a new version, one simply does not exist.

Why?  All they will do is the same basic troubleshooting that you can and should do yourself.

Unless Apple goes out of business any time soon, there will be another update, whether it's called 7.0.4, 7.1 or something else. It's no guarantee it would fix the issue, but since the issue didn't occur until after updates had been made, it's entirely possible another update could set things right again.

I wouldn't visit the Apple Store until I had exhausted all other troubleshooting options. It's possible I have a hardware issue which would likely warrant a replacement. Thank you for telling me what I can and should do though. My life is whole.

    Just want to share.

I had mine too by not the blue screen.. It turns black and Apple logo comes on and into the lock screen. 2-3 times a day.

And I also notice when I use the Touch ID, the display flickers before fully comes on...

For the past 3 days, my iPhone didn't restart itself anymore after I switch off the Touch ID. I can do my Numbers, Pages and other stuff, no more restarting. It just works great now.

Hope Apple get the fix for us so we can start using the Touch ID again.

I have had the very same problem I have had a replacement iphone from apple, changed the sim and it still did it. I have restored from backups which I assumed was the problem so I restored as a new phone. I aslo felt it was the touch id causing this so I didnt enable it and this worked for a few days then I decided to use touch id again and within minutes it did the 'reset'.

So this is definitely a touch id fault, I am waiting (as I type) for apple to call me, I scheduled a call for 12.30pm but it is now 12.40 with no call. I think I will not be having another iphone after this.

My wife and I have the same issue, reset to black screen with apple logo intermittently. Mine happens about once a week. My wife's happens a few times a day. Its pretty rediculous. I also have issues with my fingerprint scanner, where sometimes it will not work. Not where it doesn't read the fingerprint, but where it just doesn't give me an option to scan, only swipe to the number pad. It seems like these are all software issues. That is what I am hoping. Never has issues like this with my 3GS or the 4S.

My wife did go the apple store and they told her to try and restore (which did not work). They also hinted that it would be fixed by a software update.

Hi, I have the problem since last weekend. After unlocking with "Touch ID" with my iPhone 5s with iOS 7.0.3 sometimes after unlocking the "White Screen" with the black Apple logo appears for a few seconds.

Alter that back in the Homescreen, you can work again. Hope that the problem can be fixed with an update.

Apple have contacted me today and they want me to enable the fingerprint ID and keep a log of what apps are running when it crashes again. The man did state that it was definitely a software problem and suggested that I may have to create a new user account on my PC to set it up as anew phone on that account. The reason behind this is that even though I have set it up as anew iphone there is data on my computer in itunes that is accessed when setting it up and this copuld be corrupted in some way.

    I'll keep you posted

Hi again, interesting note, i had the problem the first time in cause the Facebook App update error last weekend (Saturday 09th Nov.).I deinstalled the App completly on the phone and iTunes so i thought, that was the problem. Since today... Very strange. This is the only point on my iPhone, the iOS is very stable in all other points for me.

Hi all, I have just update my 5s iOS to 7.0.4

I have enable back the touch ID features and no more restarting issue ever since.

Just hope the issue will not come back and haunt us again and Apple have fixed this bug permanently..

    Many thanks Apple. Good job..
