The search and address bars are unified now.
There is no way to separate them.

My Macbook Pro is now 5.5 years old and in all that time I have used Firefox Nightlies. Safari does not cut it for me! With all my extensions FF works so beautifully I would be devasteted if it became like Safari. I tried Opera, Chrome and Chromium but so far love Firefox above all else! To each their own

Might as well ask can you separate the head from the body of the Apple designer who thought joining these two features together makes any kind of sense in the real world? Next the Apple car - where the brake pedal is combined with the accelerator??! You can force Safari 5.1.7 onto Mountain Lion - search the web to discover how - it is quite tricky. As for Mavericks - so far reported it is not possible. If Apple does not arise to the aroma of roasted Arabica and add a two box option then I guess we will all end up on FireFox. Sadly that state of affairs will do little to influence Apple's bottom line - which IMVAO it bloody well should.
