Q: MacBook pro 13" mid 2012 freezes when starting up?!

When my Macbook pro mid 2012 is starting up from hibernation (resting mode?) it freezes at the log in?

Usually I press enter to "wake up", and then the log in screen shows, but is not responsive. After pressing enter a few times it's like the computer goes back to hibernation (as if it did'nt respond to my enter clicks), and when I press enter again it starts up and works correctly. What is wrong?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Hi frarvid,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If you're seeing unexpected behavior when waking your MacBook Pro from sleep, I'd suggest checking these settings first:

Changing certain settings can reduce or eliminate this behavior:

    • Open the Energy Saver control panel and set the hard disk sleep to Never.
    • If there is a disc in your CD-ROM drive that you aren't using, remove it.
    • If you choose to leave a disk in your drive and find that you infrequently access it, open the Memory control panel and increase the disk cache size.

You can find the article with these suggestions here:

If the behavior persists, next reset the SMC:

    All the best,
