"Junk Mail" disabled, yet mail still getting directed to "Junk."

In Mail -> Preferences -> Junk Mail, I have deselected "Enable junk mail filtering" ... yet the "Junk" mailbox still appears in the left column, and various emails are still being directed to "Junk."

How do I make this stop?

It's frustrated me for years, Junk filtering disabled but sporadically an email would end up the in the Apple Mail spam box. But based on the gmail questions I've seen, I went into my gmail web interface and sure enough, gmail had filtered this particular email into the gmail spam box. Apple just brought the same email forward to the Apple Mail spam box.

What wasn't clear is why it selectively brings emails forward from some accounts and not others. Time will tell but I think I found that out as well. Turns out it is a setting specific to each account setup in Apple Mail. I went into Apple Mail preferences > accounts > mailbox behaviors tab. For some reason on the one account that would occasionally bring junk mail forward from gmail to apple mail, the gmail account in question had 'junk folder' had [Gmail]/Spam selected from the dropdown list. All others had Spam selected. Interestingly, it didn't match the other gmail accounts, but switching it to On My Mac > Junk fixed the issue. Maybe it will work for some other people as well.

Allow me to clarify: I don't care whether or not the "Junk" mailbox is visible; I just don't want Mail to direct any emails into the "Junk" folder. And, as I noted in my original inquiry, I already DID deselect "Enable Junk mail filtering."

So, to reiterate my original question: "How do I make emails stop getting directed into the Junk mailbox?" This was never a problem prior to Mavericks.

It's Gmail/IMAP ... but the "Junk" mailbox isn't part of the account; it's a built-in construct of Apple's desktop Mail app ... and there are no Rules in place that would sort mail into the "Junk" folder ... so I still have no idea why it's happening, nor how to prevent it.

I'm just venting frustration here - nothing positive to add - but they need to fire several people on the mail team.

This is just emarrassing.

Same problem here - nearly all my mail goes to junk, even from VIPS. Mail is FUBAR since 10.9.. How apple could release it in this state beggars belief.

I've been patient with the descending quality for years now; but this just takes the biscuit... very very sad indeed.

I have the same issue and had it with ML. Couldn't find anyone that could help so just shut up about it. Now I see it's happening to others as well.

I don't want any mail directed to a Junk Mail Folder but can not seem to stop it either.

Any help would still be appreciated!!

Also, I am using Mac mail with a .mac account.
