Any experiences about Mavericks OSX compatibility with Adobe CS4 applications (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator)?

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and was planning to upgrade to Mountain Lion in order to use iCloud. But more importantly I am worried of how other applications will work. Apparently Apple doesn't even sell Mountain Lion anymore.

I have Macbook Pro (late 2008/2009 model) with 4GB of RAM.

Thank you!

Looks like it's PPC software that won't run on anything higher than Snow Leopard.

Thanks - but I'm not sure about that. I've had Intel processor ever since I installed CS4 and have heard from many sources that CS4 and even CS3 are still compatible with Mountain Lion.

According to RoaringApps, all CS4 software should work with Mavericks.

    Any real experiences out there?

    Thanks!

I ran CS4 and CS5/5.5 applications with Mountain Lion, and just tested CS4 Photoshop with Mavericks. It opens but doesn't work, it won't open any image file. So I suspect the rest of CS4 applications are similar with Mavericks, meaning expect crashes and Apple message windows. I suspect CS4 applications work but it's the application to file issue it can't resolve. I use GoLive 9 and some CS5/5.5 and CS6 applications fine with Mavericks, but that's probably the only CS applications which will work with Mavericks.

Unfortunately, I discovered too late that Mavericks renders my CS4 dysfunctional. Like wsrphoto indicated, it won't open image files. It will open the Raw preview screen, but when you attempt to open a file from there... nothing. No image. Nor will it open jpgs. When you close Photoshop, however, it asks if you want to "save the file"... pointless.

My visit to the Genius Bar only resulted in them telling me my computer was fine and if I wanted to go back to Lion, I'd have to wipe my computer clean. Grrr!

It would have been nice for Apple - or Adobe -  to warn users that Mavericks would create this problem. It has profoundly disrupted my workflow and now I've either got to wipe my computer clean to downgrade back to Lion, or put out the money to buy CS6 - which I really didn't need. Not happy AT ALL.

Upgrades shouldn't be suggested only to end up creating problems...

I have been able to open Bridge, select a RAW photo and then open from there to Photoshop and save as anything I want. All using CS4. I am having trouble with Illustrator. Havent tried InDesign yet...

I can't attest to All of Adobe CS4, but I have and work in Adobe CS3 and also use InDesign CS4 and everything seems to run without major issues on Mavericks.

AI CS3 seems to crash a little more frequently in Mavericks than it did in Snow Leopard, but not crashes regularly enough to be much of a productivity issue. But I can' tell if it is from something I do in AI or an issue with the OS.

Those of you users complaining that Adobe CS4, CS5 and CS6 aren't working properly, make sure you have no antivirus software installed, no third party hard drive "cleaning" apps that are a big scam and total " garbageware".

If you have any of this installed on your respective Macs, then you need to go the software and antivirus ware developers' websites to find the proper way to uninstall these apps.

If you use scanners and drawing tablets and any proofing printers or soft proofing software with the Adobe software, make sure all of these things have  updated software and drivers for Mavericks.

Make sure your fonts, in your Adobe documents, are not corrupted if you use Font software with the Adobe apps. Make sure if you use Font software that this has been updated for use with OS X Mavericks. Especially if you have the font software auto open with fonts installed into any of the Adobe apps. Any of this that is NOT updated can cause launching and operational issues with Adobe apps.

I have CS4 on my Maverick and it runs OK. but dont leave any open window in photoshop and let it go to sleep. it will never recover. and then when working on same file, it will never 'save' that file again. it keeps saying the file is still open or was left open. u have to save all files "save as". frustrating..... my illustrator program will not run.

When you say "never recover" do you mean a re-boot is required or a full re-install of Photoshop is required?

I have decided to create a clone of my Snow Leopard drive. Hope I can boot onto that ok. I just lost my big Mac Pro in a fire and am finding my way around. Havent bought a computer since '06. I guess that's long enough. It's just rude a fire took out my beloved Mac Pro. Don't think much of the new ones.

I partitioned my HD and left a segment of it loaded with my old snow leopard (which is a very stable system; unlike Maverick- we need updated!!) just in case my 2008 goes belly up. I never had a single problem under snow leopard; although Maverick does a better job of 'filling in the blanks'. But requires more ram; so now Im going to have to buy some more ram. it goes into the old spinning wheel for a few microseconds and for the least little photoshop action. so yes, Maverick is a memory hog.

ive also notted that the spinning wheel changes from the old icon gif of a bright multicolored wheel to the more blah icon of Maverick which is stale blue and dark blue. odd that both should appear, unless Maverick is running leopard also because i did load it on top of snow leopard. maybe apple slipped 'another rosetta' inside Maverick for the universal programs anyway.
