Your computer will support Mac OS X 10.9 if it has at least 2GB of RAM; to get there, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store, run the 10.6.8 combo updater, and download Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

You are in luck. You will simply need to purchase one upgrade (Snow Leopard 10.6). After installing that you should be able to upgrade to the most recent version (Mavericks 10.9)
