Q: Why is using HDMI so difficult with Macintosh?

What is the point of creating MiniDisplay port in the first place?  Oh, I see, it's because HDMI ports are so large, right.  Anyway, I went and bought a MiniDP to HDMI adapter, plugged it in, and... there's no audio!

Turns out the engineer at Macintosh in all their wisdom decided that: 1.  HDMI ports are too large??? and, 2. Why would anyone want audio signal along with their video???

The cause can only be attributed to one of two possibilities:  A. incompetence or B. a deliberate effort to squeeze additional cash from their loyal customers.  It's pretty hard to conclude that the people who develop this technology are incompetent.

Apple didn't develop the hardwaree that would allow audio to be combined through the Mini DisplayPort until February 2010 so only the model 7,1 Mid 2010 MacBook had the capability.

HDMI was released in 2004... So why was Mini DisplayPort "developed" when existing superior techonology was already established?

Because the hardware was to large to fit into the laptop case.

That's odd, several other companies were able to provide HDMI ports as early as 2008... and HDMI ports are roughly the same size as a USB port, of which there are at least two in most laptops.

Apple has yet to provide its own Bluray built-in.   Though some third parties now offer Bluray for the Mac.

It has instead apparently relied on the video purchase/rental store from the iTunes Store on the AppleTV and the computer for HD video.  Mac Minis have had HDMI ports for much longer than any other Mac model.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ if you feel a better adapter needs to be made for older Macs.  I've found a few that do combined the cabling from the headphone port and video port to HDMI so you don't need to worry about the aforementioned article.   This is just a user to user forum, so any suggestions here will likely fall on deaf ears.

We can't presume Apple's marketing policies, but we can point out where you can voice your desires.
