Q: I've got a system 7.1 folder that contains a disk tools.image how can i put this on a floppy disk?

I got myself a PowerBook 165 that has a moved file in the system folder thats stopping it from booting up. I downloaded a system 7 disk tools.image off the internet but the only thing is that I don't know what to do know. I got a usb floppy drive that I use sometimes for my pc stuff but sice mac os 10.8 dosn't have support for HFS I can't copy the image on to the disk. I also have a imac from 2000 that can read HFS files and write them but when ever i try and use disk utility to copy the image over to the floppy disk it always gives me an error. Can someone please help me? I really want my PowerBook to work again.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Thank you for the update.

I am rather inclined to agree with you that it does not have anything to do with the hard drive, since it would be unlikely that two hard drives (and their drivers) cause similar error messages. However, stranger things have happened, and if one wants to completely rule this out, it may become necessary to try booting the computer from a floppy without an installed hard drive.

The Network Access Disk 7.5 is suitable for the PowerBook 165c. A system enabler is not required for a Network Access floppy to boot a PowerBook 165c. We have reason to believe that your Network Access floppy was properly produced. Therefore, we should be able to rule out a problem with this very disk.

You mentioned a message saying that a System 7.1 installer disk was not supported. This can be true if it is a plain System 7.1 Install disk (not an install disk that specifically mentions your model 165c). A special system enabler must reside next to the System suitcase when used with the PowerBook 165c. The original enabler for this computer was 121; it was later replaced by 131 (whereas the original enabler for the PB 160/180 was 111; also later replaced by 131).

If the hard drives in fact are OK, that would probably mean that there is a hardware issue with the computer itself.

    Addendum

As you have seen, I have assumed that you have a PowerBook 165c. This was the most well-known model (colour).

However, there was also a slightly newer PowerBook 165 (grayscale). Interesting to note is that the colour model 165c has a 68882 FPU (the grayscale model 165 does not have one). Furthermore, the System Enabler 131 (version 1.0.3) appears to be the one with original support for the PowerBook 165 (under System 7.1).

I have noticed that you mentioned only a PowerBook 165. Can you confirm that you have the grayscale model?

    Hi there again,

    1. I installed two different hard drives inside the PowerBook and the message floating point coprocessor not installed so I whent back to the original stock hard drive.

2.It was a Network Access disk that I copyed from winimager. The funny thing is that when I try and load a copy of system 7.1 installer disks it says the PowerBook says that it dosnt support 7.1

    3. I pressed the keys and the PowerBook dose the same thing.

    4. I don't really want to try this since I know for a fact that its not got anything to do with the hard dive. sorry.

    5. Can't really load up the floppy disk so no
