Q: VPN Setup = Airport Extreme + Uverse Router + iMac

1. I am a NOOB.

2. I am having trouble setting up the VPN for my server (iMac).

3. Map of Setup:  iMac > Airport Extreme > AT&T Uverse Router > Internet

4. Have mercy, Apple Peeps.

The VPN service is non-functional in 10.9 because of a bug. Unofficially, you can work around the bug by replacing the file /usr/sbin/racoon with the one from a 10.8 system. I am not recommending that action, merely making a comment.

Running OS X Server, your Airport Extreme configuration will automatically setup (port forwarding) when you turn on the VPN Service in OS X Server as long as you give Server access to the Airport Extreme.

What issues are you having with setting up VPN in OS X Server? If you're having authentication/connectivity issues with OS X Server 3.0.1, then as Linc pointed out there are issues with that service. And the workaround he presented does work. You are on your own for support though if you use it.

    Might this explain the issue?

OS X Server (Mavericks): Clients cannot connect to VPN service using L2TP

    Symptoms

With OS X Server (Mavericks), the VPN service may no longer accept L2TP connections. This can happen if the client and server are behind different network address translation (>NAT) gateways.

    Resolution

You can configure and use PPTP instead. Please note that PPTP requires Directory accounts.

Thank you all for your help.

That would explain it. And using PPTP does work with the Mavericks racoon file. Just need to follow the configure link you have for PPTP.

Looks like there is a VPN Update for OS X Server that just came out. It requires OS X 10.9.1. Installing it myself now.

    Good luck to everyone.
